people say 'bloody' all the time? Can you trace back the history of this?

some people say that the curse bloody goes back to Queen Mary or "Bloody" Mary. She wsa a tudor queen who was on the throne before her half sister Queen Victoria. Her father, Henry VIII. Bloody Mary found her nickname through ordering the slaughter of many protestants in her time.

Some sources say it goes back to either the 1650 or 1840 depending how it was used but in the 1880s, it was considered a "horrid word" by respectable people. Australian's use it all the time and is not necessarily seen to be obscene.

It had to do with swearing on the sacred blood of Christ. It was considered blasphemus to use the words "by Christ's blood"lightly, so the phrase became "swear words." The phrase, over time, became shortened to bloody and fell into common use as a type of adjective.

One theory is that it is a contraction of 'by Our Lady' (like Goodbye is a contraction of 'God be with ye')
