Try a humidifier especially if you're running a heater at this time of year. Sounds like your throat and nasal passages are drying up. Gargle with salt water in the morning to ease the pain and have a good cup of hot tea to increase the circulation. An asprin with food will also reduce any inflammation. godloveya.

Does the pain last all day or just until you drink something? I have a bad pain in my throat that lats all day now since I strained the wrong way and lifted a heavy object ( not by myself) and the bones in my neck have shifted. When they shifted it caused the muscles to tighten and therefore put pressure on my vocal cords as well as the back of my throat. If the pain lasts only until you drink/eat something then the nasal passages are drying out causing the throat to dry out as well. A good suggestion is a warm mist humidifier. A cool mist humidifier will dry you out more and lead to having cold and flu like symptoms. Good Luck.

My guess is that it could be one of two things. You may have some post nasal drip. That can give you a sore throat. You can try taking some over the counter allergy medication like Claritin to help with that. Also, when the air is too dry, you can get a sore throat. You might try putting a humidifier in your bedroom.

Most people when they are asleep the muscles in there face relax and our mouth tend to be open and we tend to breath through our mouths and if your home is dry it will dry out your throat...Mine use to do that all the time and I decided to get a humidifier and it has help but there are still some mornings my throat still hurts.

Probably snoring and the back of the throat gets dry. Happens to me often. There is some swelling that results from this. Suck on a coughdrop or shoot some sore throat spray back there.

It might be caused my drainage. I have this problem when I eat dairy for dinner or later in the evening. My nose runs into my throat and causes me to snore and makes my throat raw.
See if there's anything you're eating or might be allergic to either right before bed or in bed. I've also had problems with some detergents.

Are you mouth breathing when you sleep? The other thing it might be is post nasal drip. I would suggest seeing an ear nose and throat specialist.

Hi there !
Is it that you have the habit of sleeping with your mouth open ? Then the oral cavity becomes dry and hence the pain due to dryness and maybe, associated inflammation or infection !
