I think it's possible and think I read somewhere that it might be inherited down to 2nd or 3rd or more generation. My great-great grand-mother had it or she could have been bi-polar; I am bi-polar and my sis is, too. Whatever she had --she tried to drown her child! and she was in a State Mental hospital--where she was a resident when she died. My sis and i were working on Family tree and talked to her and my Kin folks. Uncle Henry said SHE WAS the most beautiful woman, but that she would meet Men in Woods! I've not seen a photo of her, but I saw one of her Sister, who was an attractive older lady in the pic. Hope you nor any family member does not inherit your Grandfather's schizophrenia! ( I'm bi-polar but have never tried to harm my children. ) Have felt somewhat suicidal in past years, but have never tried to kill myself. and I've usually felt somewhat More suicidal when On some anti-depressants -in my life. Take Zyprexa now. 2.5 mg. daily (an anti-psychotic); but it has always caused me to need far too much sleep; it does help my mood swings, tho and right now I'm experimenting with takiing only 2.5 mg. every other day, but my high back hurts too bad when I cut my med down - much! That's the main reason I may not be able to get off it; I did come off it slowly bout 3 yrs ago and stayed off about 8 or 10 mo's. I lost ten lbs. slowly when i was off Zyprexa. I've gained 20 lbs total On it. --am so tired of needing too much sleep! (but when i was off it --after i had taken it bout one yr. --i still needed far too much sleep; but Before I took it - the first time - I seldom needed too much sleep--only sometimes -but It was a regular thing for me to sleep too much; most of the time back then, I only needed 3 to 5 hrs sleep - it seemed; now when i don't sleep enough I feel so tired and sleepy and can barely do anything! Best wishes! (i didn't intend to write a book, here! ) lady: 50 something yrs. old in USA .

Schizophrenia has been linked genetically which would suggest that you do stand a higher chance of also having it, however, it isn't set in stone. Schizophrenia is also linked to anxiety and depression and so you will also be at a higher risk of inheriting these too, however, if you keep worrying about it and interpreting everythinig you do then you may end up bringing on schizophrenia yourself as it is linked to paranoia! Viscious Circle eh?!

it can be inherited only if the similar gene from ur grandfather is present in u. if ur parent donot have schizophernia then there are 50% chances that u will not inherit it. sometimes the gene responsible for this condition is suppressed in ur parent and it can be activated in u. this will show effect from childhood. so u need to watch ur self. but normally if the gene is suppressed or is exchanged by a new gene from one of ur parent then it will not develop this condition in u. keep confidence in ur self, do more excersice, creative work and remain away from such thoughts. keep ur mind healthy and fresh.

yes, is it possible to inherit it. But it is also possible to be misdiagnosed, as was my sister, who actually had bipolar(manic depression). She killed herself in 2001 after years of cocktails of drugs given to her to keep her suppressed and "manageable". Bipolar people fluctuate from extreme highs in mood to extreme lows.
Some people are prone to depression due to a lack of a certain hormone in the brain. this runs in families. Anti-depressants are the answer, normally safe, a short course, sometimes a year or even two seems to work.(in our family, anyway.)
Many people feel so low at certain times of their life that they feel like killing themselves. Speak to friends and family, tell your doctor, ask if anti-depressants may help. Be careful about counselling, I have seen it do more harm than good. A good friend is worth a thousand counsellors, who will keep you on their books just to get paid. They have been known to magnify your problems, making them appear bigger than they are.
Spending time with animals and children helps when feeling low.
Doesn't sound to me that you are schizo, I have read loads on subject and met many people who are schizophrenic(some of the nicest people I have ever met). I am not a professsional though so see a doctor who knows you well if you are still worried. Good luck. kpc<123>

Yes, though there are hypothesis' that say, if you are aware of the potential, you are less likely to develop it. I don't think it's a high risk and possible even less if your parents haven't developed it.

yes, for a parent to pass it on is about a 10% possibility. I don't know what it is for 3rd generation. I have a touch of it, and i suspect my dad did too.

There is a familial tendency to it, but there are a lot of theories about whether it is environmental or genetic.
