The last blessing God gave us in the bible is Revelations 22:14 "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that THEY may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Does this not mean that if you dont obey Gods commandments that we will not go to heaven, but perished. Why will God make this His last blessing in the bible?

What is God's commandment to give you enternal life (the tree of life)? John 3:16 For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM should not perish but have everlasting life. If you only want eternal life obey this scripture. Of course if you do not believe in Jesus you do not go to heaven and you perish. If you want other kinds of blessings from God there are are other scriptures that you need to know and obey.

By the phrasing of your question, I think you already know the answer. Contrary to popular belief, Jesus did NOT nail the commandments to the cross. One of the key messages in the Bible, repeated many times from Genesis to Revelation, is, 'obey God's Commandments, for in them is life.' What do you have if you don't have life?

What would Jesus say? He already said it:
"...if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." (Mt 19:17)

You've heard of the importance of a person's 'Last Word', haven't you?

First is to follow Acts 2:38 repent, be baptised in Jesus' name, and recieve the Holy Ghost. From there follow the teachings of Jesus and you will allowed into Heaven. The Scripture you are asking about is in refrence to those following the teachings of Jesus being allowed into the city after Jesus' return and the devil being thrown into the pits of hell. If you don't do as Jesus says you aren't going to Heaven. Heaven is not a right to man, it is the final blessing that any human could recieve from God.

Jeanne,
That's not a good translation. Rather it's Blessed are they that washed their robes.

Revelation 22:14"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. (NIV)

If you seriously think tha you can keep the commandments, you have a very elevated view or yourself.

As a Catholic (and Christian) I tend to have a more liberal interpretation of the bible or at least to use it as a reference of symbols and not as hard facts to be strictly interpreted. So, please remember that no matter what one does or does not due, that god is forgiving and he may or may not forgive someone who does not follow his commandments. One thing is certain, there is NO WAY that you nor I can judge another person and know if he or she will go to heaven or not. That is not up to us. It is up to forgiveness by god and repentance by the person. Please try and use the bible as a guide on how to live your life and not as an exact book for looking at each sentence in isolation. Don't presume you know what will happen to someone else or you will be acting as if you are god...a serious and definite sin.

He's showing how simple it is, just as the author of Ecclesiastes did in Ecc 12:13-14... Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Who is supreme but god? What man can bind him? What man can see him when only the pure at heart can see him? And who is pure?? Who is free from sin?? there is no one and it is stated in the bible many times that does good and does not sin. To do his commandments christ stated well was to love god with all your heart all your mind and all your soul and to love your nieghbor as you do yourself this is the greatest gift you will ever give god. and that is to look beyond yourself. Christ stated go find someone beaten and thrown in a ditch, and care for them and take care of them/ go and do the same!!!!!!!!!!

the city is new jerusalem not heaven. Heaven is not a city and has no gates. Hell has gates. Gates are defensive weapons. As far as I know the Bible never mentions the pearly gates, that I think is just a story.

Jesus said if you love me, keep my commandments. Whoever does not love and obey Jesus, the love of the Father is not in him. Jesus said whoever loves the Father, Jesus will love them. Do you see why this was the last?
