Mineral or filtered tap water is good. There are lots of other "natural" non-chemical things that are good for skin too. But the most effective is what we put into our bodies, including water.

If you drink it yes. Sitting in water for hours is not going to solve any problems but cause them. Pure water weakens the cells of the kill from the outside...sucking all the salts away. Furthurmore, once you wet you skin, it dries. If you've got dry skin, dont wet it cause when it dries again its going to be worse than it was before.

Staying "Well-Watered" Good for Skin, Health

Is bottled water, like Evian Natural Spring Water, the next skincare product you'll need? Maybe it should be.

Getting plenty of water is key to skin health and beauty, say skin and fitness experts. So much so that, in many ways, water is the original beauty product. It's also important to overall health.

"If you are severely dehydrated, your skin is not going to have that healthy, dewy glow," says Jan Marini, president of Jan Marini Skin Research in San Jose, California. Dehydration can lead to flaking skin and wrinkles.

Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields, creators of Rodan + Fields Skincare, concur. "Drinking plenty of water is good for the skin."

Indeed, for staying hydrated, water--good old H2O--is what does the job. Alcoholic drinks and those high in caffeine can actually take moisture from the body, not add it. Many of them also add calories. Thus, thirst should be quenched with water or other non-caloric beverages, such as unsweetened herbal, non-caffeinated tea.

The suggested daily water intake is 2 to 3 pints. This amount is in addition to the 2 pints of water typically obtained from your daily food intake. Fruits and vegetables, milk, yogurt, and fresh cheeses are particularly rich in water, while chocolate, butter, cookies, and other foods contain very little water. Oils contain no water at all.

So staying hydrated can take some effort. Increasingly, people find that carrying bottled water is a quick, convenient way to keep their water intake up. This can be especially important if you're on the go, exercising, or watching your weight.

Water and exercise
Exercise can bring a glow to your skin and is good for overall health. But having an active lifestyle requires keeping a close eye on your water intake.

"A lot of people come to workout without having had enough water beforehand. You need to drink water ahead of the thirst situation," says Geralyn Coopersmith, MA, CSCS, Manager and Senior Faculty, Equinox Fitness Training Institute (EFTI) in New York.

"By the time you feel thirsty, you're probably already a little dehydrated," adds Coopersmith.

And that's not good for your skin.

How hydration works
Drawing from your body's plasma, the skin contains considerable water reserve (approximately 15 to 18 pounds). This water attaches to macromolecules in the skin that retain water like a sponge.

A natural emulsion comprised of water and lipids prevents the skin from losing water and dehydrating.

However, "with sun exposure and age," points out Marini, "we produce less of the substances needed to aid the skin's ability to retain water. Our skin's ability to provide an excellent barrier is diminished" over time.

Drinking plenty of fluids-hydrating from the inside out-therefore remains important as we age.

And, say Rodan and Fields, "the external humidity is also vital to determining how hydrated your skin appears."

Their advice? "Combine lots of water with a great moisturizer."

Drinking lots of water is good for your skin. I don't drink nearly enough so I have rather grotty skin.

However, if you wash too much, your skin will get dried out.
