i cannot speak for them all
but i do work at a site that has wonderful readers
you do not have to be in front of the person since it is energy they read and energy has no boundries
i have had readings and done reading for people that live on the other side of the world
so yes it can work

Nothing like that works. It is all evil.
What works is online prayer.
Find a Christian church in your neighborhood and talk to the pastor. There the church can also pray for you.
Do not give your heart to evil nor evil practices. It is not from God. If you go to psychics and mediums, you are opening your door wide open for evil and lots of destruction to you and your future.
Find out your facts first before you do anything like this.
The Bible warns us against such practices.
Gal 5:19-21
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery(witchcraft)includes psychics and mediums, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Do your homework. Search. The Word (Bible) tells us

they work if they offer their services for free but if they try to make money off their apparent gift they are probably farse. when you have a great gift such as this (i do) you offer it to people for free out of the love of your heart and to better other peoples lives. i dont believe if you have such gifts that you should get rich off it. i believe we should share with the world this gift.

Yes,they do but I have found free readers i.e. the ones you find in yahoo groups to be much better,longer and more detailed.
I wouldnt use the pay sites.
