The best way to introduce dogs to children is to ask the children to put a dog treat on the palm of their hand with their fingers close together and let the dog approach them to retrieve the titbit. Children should hold their hand beneath the dog's mouth level and keep it still. They should be encouraged to stroke or scratch a dog under the chin or around the throat, rather than patting them on the head. Patting on the head obstructs a dogs sense organs and can be misconstrued as an act of aggression.
Children should not hug or cuddle dogs that have not been fully socialised. Please ensure children and dog interactions are closely monitored.<< http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/ccp51/cc/dog-training/children-training.shtml

Try it with a leash first. You HAVE to have complete control over him. Especially around children.
See how the first meeting goes. If he's friendly with the kids let them know the rules. You have to set them according to your dog and your comfort level. You could just let the children know that the dog is nervous and they have to be very gentle with him. They shouldn't approach him at all. Let him do the talking so to speak. If you start to feel comfortable, set some boundaries with the kids. Small kids can be kind of annoying to an animal.
Good luck!

slowly introduce the dog to the children and make sure that you have a leash on the dog because if the dog is not used to children it might get scared and feel the need to attack.

just let the children allow the dog to smell their hands first and get familiar with them. They can then give it a treat followed by petting slowly.

all the other answers are good, just remember that you have belonged to your dog in the past, don't make him jealous of the children
