And if it is possible to teach a crow to speak where/how would a person find/capture a crow? I suppose it would have to be a chick. What type of trees do they most likely nest in? Thanx, PZB

The crow is one of the most intelligent of bird species...they would now you are after them & fly away...
And unnecessary surgery on an animal is cruel & unusual...especially if it is just for your amusement...

You do not need to do anything to it's tongue, it's just cruel anyway. Crows can talk extremely well and they are very intelegent birds. I owned one for the better part of 8 years. I never kept in a cage, he used to fly around outside and then come down and sit on your shoulder when you left the house. I'm from a small town in South Africa so it's not all that uncommon to keep all sorts of animals.

I've only heard about it---never actually seen/heard one talk.
Probably would be very cruel to kidnap one and try. Crows are extremely intelligent; keeping one as a pet would require you to be a very responsible pet owner. You need to think of it as a 3-4 year old human. You wouln't keep one of those in a cage all the time, and you can't with a pet crow, either. They need LOTS of stimulation, exercise, and life-experiences, just like a little kid.

Yes if you split their toughes they can infact talk 'better & clearer' Owning a crow in Canada in not illegal how you come about getting one is ! If you live in the USA you can buy a special type of crow from a breeder down there they are called "African Crows" they are white and black ! amazing birds and worth the price for a breeding pair. I can't remember the breeders name off hand but if you do a google search for "African Crow Breeder" his is the first listing you'll see. He does send out of USA too !

Good news! You don't have to split any birds' toungue to get it to talk. Bird don't use their tongues to talk. They use the muscles in their throat to form sounds.

From what I hear finding a crow can be hard and it's illegal in most places. With that said I find that if you visit an area often and watch for birds that visit certain trees often you can be pretty sure they have chicks. :-) . SOmetimes you can hear the racket which is pretty hard not to miss!

Good luck!
