i oppose the draft, for the simple fact that if someone wanted to die serving their country, they would volunteer. america is supposed to be the land of the free, and unfortunately that means if someone opposes the war, they have a right not to fight in it and to stand up for what they believe.
my husband is in iraq right now and i am proud of the job he is doing. but he chose to fight for everyone's rights and freedoms. taking one of those freedoms away by forcing people to fight is like a slap in the face.
my humble opinion.

I accept, and approve the concept of the draft. This is due in part to historic reasoning. Some of the most peaceful nations have a mandatory service policy. Switzerland, for example, requires all males at age 18 to serve. Interesting statistic: They have more guns per household on average than the US, and what are their crime rates? But I digress. I honestly doubt we will see the draft come back, and as it stands now, that is a good thing. The draft system in this country is inherently sexist. Women do not register with the draft board. All 18 year old American men must. It would seem the Supreme Court missed that when they were insisting women be allowed at all military academies, and be allowed as combat troops. Appearantly, while women may choose to enter, it is unconstitutional to force them into danger.

The only reason we would need a draft is if we have a large campaign erupt that we need additional military members in a hurry. If that happen, then I support the draft 100%. More than likely though I think we would see many volunteer for the service on their own. The draft is the last option, but a needed option.

If our country were directly threatened, which would equal a threat to our freedom, than I could support a draft. When we are in other countries for certain people's personal agendas, I would in no way support a draft, and neither would the majority of this nation. Canada would be getting a slight increase in their population. And why not run to Mexico? I don't think there is anyone left there.

I support military drafting, because i want to see all these scu*mbag kids off the streets.
If they think having guns in our streets is cool, then lets see how cool they are in a war.
counties all over the world are being over-run by wanna be gangsters, i don't know about the countries we are at war with at the moment, i think we need to have a good flush out of these sh*itbags and get them off our streets and empty our prisons.
Hopefully none will come back.

OK, heres the deal. The Republicans will lose the 2008 elections and the Democrats will win the white house. They will then do everything they can to pull us out of Iraq. This will cause an intense conflaguartion of military turmoil in the middle east, causing an immediate military draft to put the flames out.

a question like this one was posted a week or so ago, and I liked the answer that this guy said, he was military, and said why would he want someone there that was forced to be there. It is voluntary right now, as it should be he said, those people choose to be there, and that he'd rather have them watching his back then someone who was forced to be there. And also gave an opinion that look what happened in Vietnam. Which personally having two kids in the military, think it would only be fair that if the draft does happen, then that means ANYONE's kids go..Senators, Congress, Govenors, Mayors, Police Chiefs, Pres. Bush's grandkids, Jeb Bush's kids, ETC.....not just the kids from small town, poor kids, not in college ones......!

I most certainly support it if it became necessary. During world war 2 millions where drafted because our nation needed them. If needed again, so be it. Likely hood of it happening anytime soon, almost Nil!
And Larry_the_orc has about as much inside info as a stomped cockroach!

There was the thing back in 2004, a bill was introduced to make military service, draft-style mandatory for ANY one, regardless of their college enrollment, education, income, etc.... the idea was that the Republicans would kill it, as it left no outlet for their rich kids (when was the last time you saw the Bush twins in uniform?) to dodge the draft, while poorer kids can't.
That measure got killed, so point seen.
But honestly, the day they restart the draft is the day I move to Canada. A more balanced, and sane country.

I don't oppose serving our country for causes like the ones we were fighting for in World War II. But when we are in a war based on lies and personal agendas then I can not be supportive to send my child to fight for a cause I don't believe in. Also if Bush believes in this war so much then why aren't more of his family members out there in iraq fight for the cause????
