Most Christians do NOT convert to escape hell. Some believe hell to be figurative, and others do not believe in hell at all. Most would have converted because they consider Jesus worth following, and share his ideals of unconditional love and forgiveness.

Let's find out. There is no such thing as an eternal hell for humans. Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels. A true Christian is one who receives the eternal life of Christ. Without eternal life it is impossible to live forever in heaven or hell or any place else.
Now this bit of logic (the soul that sinneth it shall die) somehow escaped the religious money makers. Many Christians know this truth and it has not changed their love for the Lord Jesus, there concern for others or their response to life.
There are children who have killed their parents or grand parents, store clerks and owners, tourists, etc., just because they wanted some money. Religious leaders have killed or deceived countless followers for the same reason. The idea of hell isn't going to correct these people.
The devil's children tout hell for they want company. Put your eye on the leaders. Jesus found our Fathers house to be a den of thieves and nothing has changed. (There will be evil persons who suffer for a time and times before their memory is erased.)
There is a class of people, regardless of race or religion, who specialize in placing themselves between man and God and collecting money on the pretense that they have the keys to life and the means to avoid death.
Would there be less Christians? Probably less who are just subscribers and less who are disfunctional.

I see your point in asking, but in all truth, consider that the percentages of "christians" are comming the this relationship betweenGod through the popular music today, the bigzillions of grand preachers. I must say that the acceptance of the Lord is the greatest accomplishment. The true problem to cosider is the flase teahers. That's where we have issues. That is where the questions of "does hell exhist?" Eh. I am going to stop before I get started. By the way, this was the most common, practically only thing you heard in preacher's messages earlier 1800's

I don't believe there would be less Christians in the world, because Christianity is not about running from Hell. It's about having a relationship with the Creator.

That's like asking, wouldn't the fear of hell scare everyone else in the world into being Christians?

IS there such a thing as hell? Wow, I have heard people BELIEVE in hell but didn't know that someone knew for sure. Have you been there?
Yeah, I think that fear is a big-time motivator.

i don't have self belief there is such element as hell in the classic experience, and for this reason. I ask you to contemplate right here situation: think of you're on your lounge looking at television with something of your loved ones. all of sudden, 6 adult males burst into the room. 5 of the adult males tie up and gag your loved ones on an identical time as the 6th one restrains you. you're compelled to observe by way of fact the 5 adult males torture and rape your loved ones- there is quite no longer something you're able to do approximately it. then you definately swap around and look on the guy who's preserving you and you realize it is your maximum suitable pal. He seems thoroughly relaxed with what's happening, or perhaps asks you in case you want to flow out for a drink later that night. you are able to't understand what you're listening to. Your maximum suitable pal is giggling and joking with you on an identical time as combating you from saving your loved ones. The analogy is sparkling- your loved ones is in hell, you're in "heaven" and your maximum suitable pal is Jesus. for this reason hell is thoroughly at odds with the assumption-approximately heaven and a loving God. could desire to you rejoice with eternal existence understanding that your individuals and relatives have been burning? the real hell isn't understanding the affection of God. It has no longer something to do with fire and pitch forks.

If there were no hell, there would be exactly the same number of christians are there are now.
It's not a matter of there being or there not being. Hell is irrational. The important part is that people believe that they will be punished if they don't act nice.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. I think its out of fear that if they don't do as they are told they are going to burn in this place called hell. That's why religion was invented in the first place to keep people under control. Its all about power.

i was under the impression that every religion has their own version of hell.
in any case, i don't think people convert to Christianity because of fear of going to hell, but rather the desire to accept Jesus into their hearts and ultimately be accepted into the kingdom of the Almighty.
