Actually both.

Addiction as a whole is essentially the loss of one's free will, to be controlled by some external stimuli. Many times we enter into such an addiction quite innocently and unwittingly.

There are two primary forms of addiction. Chemical dependency and Psychological Addiction (habit).

While both Smoking and Drinking, when performed as a result of an need to do so, both fall under the classification of "Chemical Dependency", but that has not always been the case. For many years, right up through the 1990's it was widely believed that Smoking was simply a psychological addiction and was simply a matter of breaking a bad habit. Many, even some professionals, still believe this, but knowing what we do today about the addictive properties of Nicotine, we now know better.

Psychological addiction can apply to anything, and I do mean anything, else.

Many people find they cannot start their day until they get that first cup of morning coffee and sit down at the computer to check their e-mail. They often check their e-mail many times throughout the course of the day and again when they get home.

Others find they are lost without their cell phone. Some will beg every friend they have to know what happened to "John and Marsha" if they miss an episode of their favorite soap opera.

These are all prime examples of psychological addiction.

Well honestly they are basically both equally horrid, but I would say smoking, because really the biggest threat of consuming to much alcohol is alcohol poisoning, but by smoking you can get lung cancer, mouth cancer, etc... Like I said, both are equally horrid, and really it all depends on what type of smoking, how much alcohol consumption and other factors that could influence the outcome(s) of doing this addictive and dangerous activities. If you start smoking under (I believe) 20 years of age, you are most likely to become highly addicted to it, and have more problems quitting it than if you would have if you started after 20 years. With alcohol, drinking much can still cause problems, such as vomiting, headaches and dizziness, hallucinations after getting "wasted", a "beer gut", and as I stated above, alcohol poisoning. Now, if you drink a little wine or beer on special occasions, or every now and then, it isn't very much of a problem, (again, it counts on how much consumption had the drinker.). For smoking, it's a bit more complicated, yes although smoking a suitable amount for little time on special occasions and every now and then, it again doesn't pose that much of a threat. But much consumption over time can cause many health problems...
Hope this was helpful and very much resourceful to you. :)

Smoking (because your eye balls turn yellow, your fingers are all burned, your hair looks flat and smells like a bar in the dessert in nevada, all your clothes have burn marks or holes, and of favorite of all you can get cancer and that's not even the worst part if you smoke around people you love they can die first than you and you will be stuck talking eating out of a whole from your neck.

Well Ive never know anyone to be involved in a car accident from smoking too many cigarettes.
Drinking on the other hand yes.
But after years i don't suppose either are good for you, it also depends on how much you smoke and drink and how often

Any harmful addiction is very bad for you, but between drinking and smoking: Drinking is worse because it causes more deaths then any other legal substance, eg drinking and driving.

Smoking is said to be one of the strongest addictions in the world.
However, being addicted to alcohol is probably even more inhealthy.
Either addiction is bad, and both is a recipe for early death.

As has been said many times, addiction to alcohol is far worse than cigarettes.

Cigarettes do not impair judgment or reflexes, alcohol does. I've never heard of anyone slapping their spouse or kids around after having too many cigarettes. Likewise, smoking does not cause of person to drive erratic or commit vehicular homicide.

Both alcohol and smoking addictions are very bad for the health
and they usually make people sick to the extend of robbing their
lives in their prime age.
Drinking excessive alcohol daily for a long period of time causes cirrhosis of the liver which eventually leads to death. And likewise,
smoking excessively for many years causes lung cancer which
is incurable and it brings death with painful sufferings.
