Outrigger Reef on the Beach looks good, I have never stayed there but it looks nice. For good value clean Accommodation about 2 blocks from the Beach try ohanahotels.com

expedia.com and travelocity.com have special deals. and list the hotels by ***** (stars).
Hilton Hawaiian Village is huge and nice and good place to shop, ....and tons of others are on Waikiki beach.

Public transportion (open air trolleys - can get all day passes, and frequent , very clean buses) go everywhere ...even to the other side of the island to swim with the dolphins, and go snorkeling) ....so convenient.
ABC stores have inexpensive stuff including wine, sunscreen, and trinkets.
On yahoo - travel you can search everything you need, and just search web - Honolulu, Hawaii!!!
