Yes! be very concerned. It could cause brain damage and or convulsions. Call your doctor first thing tomorrow morning. There have been cases where the parents have been charged with abuse of the child,If he does it a lot when he is mad, is this due to not getting what he want? If so I you might need advice beyond what any one here could offer. I don't think a child should be spanked but you surely need to get his attention! And possibly have an attitude adjustment! Your thoughts on him wearing a helmet is probably a good idea! and when he bangs his head, do you run to comfort him and end up giving in to what he wants to prevent him from banging his head? if the answer is yes, put a helmet on him and when he bangs his head continue with what ever you are doing as if he's not even in the room, don't even make eye contact. When he learns that his headbanging isn't going to get him what he wants he will stop. After he is done throwing his tantrum and is settled down then give him attention, this will be a positive for him. When you see he is about to throw a tantrum you might try a diversion and take his mind off what he's wanting, but be prepared, because if you choose that route you won't have any time for anything else. He'll have your undivided attention!.

Oh boy i know I lost my ideas whilst my son did that. We have been in objective and he grew to become into status interior the basket component of the cart (specific specific i know undesirable mommy for letting him) nicely he reached over to drag on something and fell out of the cart head first onto the complicated floor of objective. nicely i think of I screamed loud adequate to wake the ineffective. If he did no longer pass out and seems to be ok then he possibly is. i could save an eye fixed on him and watch to make certain if he starts off to act any diverse than he generally could. if so then call 911 dont even problem to attend and speak to the dr. yet, I honestly have found out considering my falling experiance babies heads are as complicated as rocks and that they've a tendency to no longer be injury by way of issues that should have injury the heck out persons.

My little boy started doing this at 16 months as well, he is now 21 months and rarely hits his head on th floor, I think he will grow out of it.. I just tried to distract him when he started doing it, this sometimes worked, and sometimes I ignored him and depending on why he was head banging this worked at time as well... Good luck with your little one and I'm sure it is nothing to worry about

I would take him to the Dr. this could be totally normal or could be a sign of other things. Just take him to rule out Autism and such. Besides banging his head like that is not good for his brain if he is doing it so much as to bruise his head. Please talk to your Dr.

It could be an attention seeking device and if so he'll probably grow out of it. However, it could also be an indicator of autism or something similar so if it continues to the point of harm i'd suggest getting it checked out by your doctor.

My cousins son would do this and we found out that he had fluid in his ears. Get his ears checked. We think he would hit his head to try and stop the hurting.
