Americans commute an average of over 40 miles a day. How far do you commute every day? Or if housewife your daily errand runs. Why do you commute so far? Why do you choose to live so far from where you work?

My trip to work and back is less than 15 miles. I'm not stupid enough to waste my precious time in traffic burning fossil fuels just to chase the brass ring.

Well, I commute only about 25 miles everyday. The reason for me is that I was able to find a good paying job 25 miles away from where I live. But, to me, I don't have a very far commute. The farthest I've ever commuted was 35-40 miles from home to attend college.

My situation is a bit wierd. I live 5 minutes from my office, but that office is merely the starting point for my day. From my office, I get into either a Limo or a 10 passenger van and drive appox. 300-500 miles a day.

I'm really glad I live so close to work, because I would go nuts if I had to drive an hour every day to work.....so I could drive 10 hours all night, then drive an hour home.

My husband does a 90 mile commute (that's one way). We can afford the housing in my area much better and a couple nights a week maybe he stays in a trailer where he works. It works out fine except when gas got so high.

I have been at the same job location for 41 years. Unfortunately, it is not a neighborhood I would care to live in.

ALSO unfortunately, MY current neighborhood is becoming a neighborhood I don't care to live in, due to the locals penchant for freelance artwork on fences and buildings.

Call me stupid but I kinda love it when I gotta travel like one to two hours to work.
Gives me time to day dream which I can't at home because I gottta deal with house work and stuff...
It's like my escape...

The answer is simple. I want a home where I have some privacy, and I do not want to live in the area where my job is. It is worth it to me to get out of that area (with the crime and crowds) and be able to be comfortable at home!
