I'm a long-time Fla. resident. I've never served, but I have a lot of respect for those who do.
Back in 2000 when the votes were being re-counted here, there was a question over how to deal with ballots cast by Expats.
I know? that a lot of those ballots were cast by Servicemen
stationed overseas. But were? rejected for not having a Zip Code.
Just curious if Zip Codes are given out by Company,Division, etc.
or are they assigned by your Home Base back here in the States?

BTW My wife is a U.S.P.S. employee, and she didn't know either.

Thanks

Have the rules changed, is my main question?

Thank you , I wasn't really clear about APO.
Hopefully, those Yahoos (haha) in South Fla. learned a thing or two. It got me , and a lot of people I know pretty steamed at the time, but I never kept track of it in the news afterwards. Yesterday I remembered, and thought I'd ask.

The zip code for military personnel stationed overseas is APO (Army Post Office) AE (Army Europe) or FP (Forces Pacific). The zip code is assigned to the various installations throughout the world. They are not assigned to a specific unit. Example: APO AE 09263 is located in Kaiserslautern, Germany. This is the same as stateside where zip code 34711 is Clermont, FL.

Another problem for expats is that if you have no affiiliation with the military, you don't have an APO address; therefore, no zip code that is recognized by the voting system.

I hope that clears up your question.

overseas service does not have a zip code, for mail it is a APO
for service in Korea, and something else for service in Germany
(examples)

I served in Korea with 2/72 Ar Bn.

I think it was high treason when they threw those votes out!!!

zip codes are not given by the military. It depends on where you are registered to vote. We maintain our individual state residnency and our home of record,,this is nromally where youare registered to vote.
