I read that there is an over the counter pill that kids can chew on after brushing that will stain the teeth red if there is any plaque.

Does anyone know if these are safe, how they work and what are some of the common brand names available over the counter.

Thank you

For years dentists have known the benefits of disclosing tablets. What are they? Disclosing tablets contain a harmless colored dye that is attracted to the plaque on your teeth. Their use is simple. Take a tablet, chew it up and swish the accumulated saliva in your mouth for 60 seconds, spit and rinse. Now the disclosing tablet dye has colored the plaque on your teeth allowing you to easily see areas that need special attention.

The special dye is easy to remove with a toothbrush. And our disclosing tablets have a special "two tone" added feature. Old plaque will be colored blue, new plaque will be colored red. Now brush your teeth. Chew another disclosing tablet and take a look. It's easy to see where you are missing with your brushing allowing you to improve your brushing technique.

Disclosing tablets are indispensable in teaching youngsters to brush properly. Simply have them chew a tablet as directed. Presto! A visual lesson in proper brushing. What an economical way to get children motivated. An easy way to help protect yourself and loved ones from dental and gum disease.

Mouthwash That Shows Plaque

Hi there!!

There is actually a new product out on the market that might be right up your alley. It's a mouthwash for kids that when they rinse (before brushing) it turns the plaque on their teeth bright blue! Aside from highlighting the plaque, it helps to clean their teeth, too. It's from Listerine and it's called "Agent Cool Blue" mouthwash. They sell it at Wal-Mart and Target. Here is a link so you can see the bottle: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=155156&catid=1122&aid=335972&aparam=listerine_agent_cool_blue
Hope this helps!! :)

What your talking about is disclosing tablets. They are perfectly safe and are useful by using a dye that attaches to the plaque to show where brushing is needed.

Um yeah they still have it. My cousin had some and now it's like a mousth wash and it's blue. She's 7 though so it was kinda for kidsa but I used it too I honestly don't remeber what it was called though but it worked! I think it was by Crest though. Ask your dentist or the pharmacist at your store...?

They are safe and if you look at your local drug store or pharmacy, they also have it in a liquid rinse now that does the same thing. My son uses the liquid and it has improved his brushing skills along with being fun and tasting good. I think the brand name of it is Plax for kids. But it is a pre-rinse. Not a mouth wash. Good luck.

You're talking about disclosing tablets. They are safe. You can buy them online at www.oralhealthproducts.com or check with a pharmacy near you. If they don't carry them, they may be able to order some. They come in flavors.
