as I said in another answer I have had insomnia for years..The OTC meds don't do a lot. I take sleeping pills but some people don't like doing that. Are you stressed or worried and that maybe the problem. Take a NICE HOT bath , write down the things bothering you and then relax. Don't drink caffeine within 3 hours of bed. OR SUGAR. Don't watch TV, or radio. Try reading or praying..that always puts me to sleep.

Hurbal tea, a short walk before bedtime... But most important of all; don't stay in your bed if you can't sleep. Get up and do some calming things - read, listen to music, stretch... Don't watch TV late at night. And don't sleep during the day.
It's no problem for a healthy person to stay up all night once in a while - you will still make it through the day. But if it continues, you should see a doctor.

yeah i have the same problem too since i was little. try to go to bed the same time every night so your body knows when to rest. Do relaxing activities like watching TV on bed ( volume down ) or make the sleeping environment relaxing. Avoid caffeine. Avoid taking a shower before bed as it keeps you awake. Make sure you have the ideal kind of pillow. This depends on how you sleep. and lastly exercise and eat healthy , i guess.

I used to have this problem too...
hopefully one of these can help you:
1) Take a warm shower/bath before going to sleep..
2) Close all lights before you go to sleep
3) Read a book...[?] until you feel droopy.
4) Make your bed more comfortable to sleep in [add in more pillows, perhaps?]
5) Do some sort of excersise[jogging?] during the day, so at night you would feel tired enough to want to sleep.
6) If you still have problems sleeping, get up and wait for 15 mins until you go back to bed again
7) If your on your holidays, [lol, prob. you wouldn't do this] try staying up the whole night and day for 24/7, hopefully you'll feel tired enough by then to go to sleep. [It may just be unhealthy for you, for just 1 day][repeat this if nescessary until you sleep 'early']
8) and oh, I forgot to add in the bestt one!! go to sleep, shut off all the lights, close your eyes.. think 'Nothing' and count > 1 - til whatever[or any sort of continuous-thinking pattern that won't make you think of anything else], until you fall off to sleep without even knowing it.
9) Dont drink coffee/tee before 5 hours goin to bed..
.:. hope some of it works!

no dont get drunk, thats the worse thing to do. try excercising in the day time, get up earlier then usual, eat properly, try to relax in a hot bath with candles before bed, blank out your mind before going to sleep, think about how relaxed you are and clear your mind. I would imagine you did sleep on and off but just kept waking up... If you had insomnia you know about it.. if you are Drinking alcohol just to sleep, you may find you fall into a pattern like alot of people do, get their sleeping sorted and end up alcys ;0

Hi Cozicat
Here are some remedies
Herbal Aids
1.Scullcap: 1 teacupful of warm scullcap infusion nightly upon retiring.
2.Insomnia (sleeplessness, especially morphine addict): See formula using scullcap, lady's slipper, hops, catnip and black cohosh.
3.Insomnia (sleeplessness, caused by nervousness): See formula using valerian, vervain, scullcap and wood betony.
4.Restlessness, Insomnia, Hysteria, Neuralgia, etc.: See formula using valerian, scullcap and mistletoe.
5.Insomnia (nervous sleeplessness): See formula using Lady's slipper, pleurisy root, skunk cabbage and scullcap.
6.Hops: Insomnia, nervous irritation. Take 2 to 3 cupfuls of hot hops infusion or stuff a pillow with hops (sprinkled with alcohol if desired) to sleep on.
7.Dr. Christopher's Nerve Formula:Here is a formula we have used with great success for well over thirty years. It is used for relieving nervous tension and insomnia; it is mildly stimulating and yet lessens the irritability and excitement of the nervous system and also lessens or reduces pain. This formula contains herbs that feed and revitalize the motor nerve at the base of the skull (medulla area and upper cervicals), and also herbs that help rebuild or feed the spinal cord. This group of herbs will also rebuild the frayed nerve sheath,. the nerve itself, and its capillaries. The following herbs in this combination are food for your valuable--and in many cases, shattered-- nerves: black cohosh, capsicum, hops flowers, lady's slipper, lobelia, skullcap, valerian, wood betony and mistletoe. The suggested amount for an adult's use would be one to three cups of the tea, or two or three capsules or tablets three times in a day, taken with a cup of celery juice or steam-distilled water.
8.General Instructions: Some other techniques can help you get to sleep. Very effective is the combination of bath and massage, particularly with a soothing oil, such as camomile. Herbal oils are easily made; check "Preparations," Camomile and linden tea both can help a person relax and sleep. For a really stubborn case, take a cup of valerian tea or a couple of capsules with warm water. A pleasant walk out of doors can help a person relax enough to sleep. Sometimes the person's blood sugar is a little low, and simply eating a piece of fresh fruit can put a person out. Warm tea with honey will do the same.
9.Not Hot Cocoa: Many of the people of Dutch extraction, that is, everyone from the Old Dutch Cleanser Girl to the Boy Who Put His Finger in the Dike, were prone to prepare themselves a nighttime cup of hot cocoa for the insomnia which prevailed in the land. Now...how can cocoa possibly cure insomnia when it contains 13.5 mg. of caffeine per cup? This practice was so extensive that it not only included family, but servants and visitors as well. This toxic dose of chocolate was topped with another toxin: cream or marshmallow. Anybody for a little chamomile?
10.Juices: Lettuce, celery, apple, onion.
11.Squash Seeds: Boiling squash seeds for a half an hour and then drinking the water has the effect of calming the nerves and helping in cases of insomnia and is good also for any urinary inflammation.
12.Vegetables for Insomnia: Cabbage, carrots, celery, collard greens, kale, lettuce, parsnips, potatoes, spinach, turnip greens, squash.
BEst of health to you
Cheers

Change your bedroom around. Try sleeping in different levels of darkness. Maybe you are too warm/cold. Change your clock if it has illuminated digits.
