If you are a religious person and believe in creationism or intelligent design (because you cannot fathom a world such as this comming together by chance, etc.), have you ever read a book on evolution, or studied it carefully? I have to say that I have read books on evolution as well as the Bible and the Qur'an, and I am still convinced that evolution is the most likely explanation for life on this earth. Also, evolution does not imply that we were all created by chance; it is far more complex than that. I do not mean it as a rude question. I just wondered how many others have researched both sides of the arguement, and come to the opposite conclusion as I have.

I am a Christian and have researched evolution. I believe in evolution. Natural selection is a law of science. It cannot be refuted due to the fact that it has been proven. Natural selection is a mere precursor to evolution. Evolution makes so much sense, as a matter of fact, that it boggles my mind how people can just say "Nope, didn't happen. I don't wanna see it. I don't want to know about it. I'm not allowed to believe it or think about it...sticking my head in the sand now.."

Most people who are going to argue against evolution don't really know anything about it. They think it means simply that humans came from apes and are dead set against that idea. I found it very infuriating in my college Biology course years ago when my professor had to give a disclaimer before teaching evolution. My parents brought me up to believe that there is a balance between religion and science and I believe that to this day. Most all religions of the world have a creation story because people WANT to know where they came from. It's natural. Whenever science steps in and is able to fill in any gaps--LET IT.

It is a very sad day and age indeed in which people shun knowledge.

as a christian i would not waste my time on evolutionary type books except to see what kind of argument the "other side" is using these days. Genesis is pretty clear when it says "he created X ...and the morning and the evening were the first day." Last time I checked a morning and an evening are literal 24 hour period. And since God is who He is, why, in heavens name, would he need to take millions of years to create anything? He spoke it into existence and it simply was as He said it. "Let there be light" BOOM, there was light, in an instant, as soon as He said it. There is NOTHING in the bible that indicates He took longer than a literal 24 hour day to create each element of our universe unless you take totally unrelated verses completely out of context like some people do. All these other theories are simply man's way to try to make "science" coincide with scripture. But in the end, it isn't how old the earth is that matters, it's wether or not we accept the one who created it.

I am not religious but I have read some books on evolution and a couple of different versions of the bible. I have only got through parts of the qur'an. I am currently working through the Origin of Species again. He was a brilliant man and it is amazing how clear he puts it across. It must be remembered that Darwin had no knowledge of genetics and was unsure how traits were actually passed down. Our increasing knowledge has only supported Darwin's Ideas though, and his theory of how evolution works has been of immense value. I am in agreement with your opinion.

edit;
now that I have read through the other answers I see the point of your question. Some of the negative answers astonished me. I would be totally unable to formulate an answer to them. Not because they have merit, in fact just the opposite. It would be like trying to explain to a fish how to tie shoelaces.

I'm a Christian and I have read books on evolution. It seems illogical that evolution did not play a part in the world we have today. There is much evidence to validate the proof of evolution. The problem comes from be beginning where no life somehow became life. It is my belief that humans did evolve, but were guided by God in the process.

I have some basics from Darwin's theory of evolution in a school course, and I have been told the Genesis when I was a child. Although I like the evolution theory better as it is more logical, I cannot go into much detail debating which is better until I know more from both sides.

Yes, I have studied both sides and have come to the opposite conclusion.

I have found www.answersingenesis.com.au to be an interesting site from a creationist perspective.

In my country it is mandatory to study evolution at high school. I wonder how many people get the opportunity to look into intelligent design?

yea this IS a logical discussion and wont ever end. It can only end if faith ends or if science gets based on faith... From my point of view, i dont get how u can know the age of things using potassium and half-life of carbon and radioactive stuff u know, but then again I am in 10th grade. I love science so I am getting into this topic. I read 14books this month on evolution and have over 200 more to read at home. I see some main differences on the dates. As in the age of earth, universe, u know.... also how long half-life of carbon based dating is.. but then again like i said..... im in 10th..

I read Darwins book..If you don't want to believe in God then you need some explanation of what happened so evolution is what you are left with.
No heaven, hell, miracles, jesus, salvation ect.. Just evolution, man from primates and this life is it..
That really sums it up in a nutshell, and I just can not swallow the pill of evolution
I have seen miracles, experienced a few myself, and know that there is a supernatural world out there.. Evolution is not for me..

My goodness. It is all that I was fed for years and years in public school. The better question is how many Evolutionists that think of Creationists as mindless have seriously looked honestly at Creation as a possibility and did any serious study on that.

I've read many books on evolution, but my theory still remains certain.

I believe that a higher power helped us out in some way.

It's weird and confusing... but I'm okay with that.
I understand why you would ask this question.

When I say "higher power," I don't mean in the extremes.

I can't explain anything right now.
