We're currently having our kitchen renovated. We bought our countertop from the Home Depot. My question is: Do I have to tip the person who's installing the new countertop? And if so, how much? Thank you for your time. =)

I've installed many contertops and have never been tipped and nor would I expect to be. It's very generous and thoughtful of you to even think of it though. People like you are the good ones to work for and we certainly wouldn't want any extra money.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness!

I would not tip an installer, you have contracted with the store, and it is the stores responsibility to pay their employee's. The only people that I tip are servise empoyee's such as wait staff, and nail tech, hair stylist's ect. If you are using a service on a weekly or monthly basis, you can also tip at Christmas.

Wherever you've ordered your counter top, they would have added in the installation/labor charges. Tipping won't be necessary. Also, take a look at the delivery slip when it arrives, it might have an amount mentioned in it (or not) for him.

I would have to say that it isn't expected or required by any means. Offering the fellow a cup of coffee or a muffin while he is working is nice and let's him know you appreciate what he is doing, but tipping would be ...awkward at best

Absolutely NOT. Would you tip a mechanic for rebuilding your motor, or a carpenter for building you a new room?

No. The amount of money that you will end up paying the installer will be more than enough compensation.
