If your looking for a quick fix use the italian seasoning mix you get from the store. But if you want to make it better in my opnion you need to get your hands on some fresh basil, oregano, a little sage, a pinch of allspice, then salt and pepper. You want to simmer the sauce before you add it to the lasagna so that you can adjust the seasoning to your liking.

Two Things to Try:

Italian Seasoning in the jar in the spice aisle

or better

A packet of Spaghetti Sauce Seasoning Mix (Like French's or McCormick's) ..usually in the spice aisle or near the canned tomatoes.

You can make great meatballs with the Spaghetti Sauce Seasoning Mix..just use one packet to season a pound each of ground beef, ground sausage and 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs. Add a splash of beef broth and mix well and form into balls. Brown in a pan on the stove or bake them in the oven then put them into your sauce to simmer.

This also works for the meat in meat lasagna. Just mix the meat as described above, fry it up and drain the grease, then use it in your lasagna.

There is a mixture called aptly enough, "Italian seasoning" that I buy at my local grocery store. It comes in more than one brand.

I always add fresh basil right at the end, with the rich tomato sauce that adds all the Italian flavour you need.

have used Del Monte canned speghetti sauce with very good results--just brown the meats you want to use, add sauce, layer, and bake; always tastes very best totally from scratch--yum
