I pay a lot each week for my yard maintenance and they are reliable even though I'm never around to see them. They come. They go. They do a great job for me although it isn't very challenging because I have minimal grass and mostly some bushes. But I do appreciate their dependability. Is it appropriate to either tip them at Christmas or perhaps give them a gift certificate for a restaurant? If so, how much?

It is most appropriate and you are wonderful for thinking so. All service people who do their jobs to the best of their ability, even the postman and the paper carrier, should get something for Christmas. For your hairdresser, for example, a fine bottle of wine and/or a check. For those more invisible, nothing is better than an envelope stuffed with money. The fact that you never see them is worth money in and of itself. The ones who need constant supervision are a pain in the you-know-what and deserve less. The less you see them - the bigger the envelope! $50 or $100 means a lot.

Oh yes, Christmas is a great time to show appreciation for services received year around, especially if the work was usually done to your satisfaction, and I would say that in addition to the usual pay, I`d give a Turkey, Ham, Gift Basket, or purchase $25.00 gift certificate OR a Shell Gas card, which can be purchased in most Drug stores, tuck inside of a Christmas Card expressing your appreciation for their services. I think the Gas card should be at least $25,00 and all others as well. Now the dine out certificate will probably come in more handy after the Holidays. and will make a nice gift, but theres so much food everywhere during the Holidays, it probably won`t be used right away. but I guess that depends on the person .

Absolutely it's appropriate. If you want to go with cash, figure at least 100% of one week's cost of landscaping. At least. If there's a "head guy" and one or more helpers, perhaps you could give cash, to be divided among everybody, plus a little something extra for the head guy, like maybe a gift certificate to the movies, a bottle of wine/champagne, etc.

A gift of cash is appropriate. Give at least what you pay to have the yard done one time.

If they do a good job for you, yes, by all means, tip them. Good reliable help is hard to find. The amount of the tip would depend upon your area. I wouldn't even hazard a guess.

Why not. Spread love & the Spirit of Christmas. Perhaps modest personal gift. Nice bottle of wine with a card. If you can afford it do it & you'll be greatly rewarded for your generosity.

From what I've heard, a tip and a card is the appropriate way to show appreciation.

I am a public servant and I can tell you it is a good feeling to know you are appreciated. Some give cash, some give gift certificates. I love the gift cert. because it gives me the opport. to get out to a restaurant which we very seldom do.

Give them each a turkey and a Starbucks card.

I feed my garbage man. Who am I kidding, I feed everyone I know.

Cookie queen.
