does anyone know where i can go to get started in boxing?

First of all, let me wish you good luck and write to you that you picked the perfect sport to get into phenomenal shape and it's also a great confidence builder.
Get on your computer and type in Boxing Gyms or Boxing Clubs, if you don't have any luck there go to USA Boxing.com and look into their national directory and see what comes up. Whatever you do stay away from Health Clubs (Ballys, World Gym, Golds Gym and so on) that offer "Boxing Instruction) the men/women that try top pass their selves off as boxing "Trainers" sat and watched a video or went to a seminar got a certificate and started calling themselves "Boxing Trainers" It doesn't work that way. There's so much more to it than that. If it were that easy, every Tom, Dick and Harry would be a "Boxing Trainer"
Before you go to a Boxing Gym go to Ringside.com and get yourself the basics, a good pair of cotton hand wraps and a good pair of bag gloves remember, the most expensive isn't always the best. Once you're at your new gym and you sign up, your Coach/Trainer will advise you of what your needs will be and point you in the right direction.

look up local gym number and ask them I will advise you where the best place is to start and most like ask you to join them as well for fittness,
