I found that some of the most interesting pastry and deserts lately are using ingredients that are usually only used in savory applications. Just last night I went out to a nice dinner and had a butternut squash cheesecake with sage ice cream that was really good. I've had beer ice cream. I've had curry cream anglaise. Hmm... can't think of any other good ones right now.

You sound desperate. I live in south Louisiana, the land of French bakeries. If you want to know about different types of pastries, look for French Chefs or Julia Child, who studied in France. Try Jaques Pepin, I have one of his pastry technique books. If you still need an interview, contact me through my website.http://www.marykay.com/teresafontenot.

This is very good... very simple... and very pretty.

Use a very large glass bowl.

Will need...
2 bought pound cakes.
2 containers of fresh strawberries (soaked at least hour in sugar) ...or favorite fruit.
2 large containers of cool whip.

break one pound cake into large pieces.
layer of strawberries-then top with cool whip. repeat till all used.

looks very fancy.... with no problems.
