Not too sure what's domokun, but you may find them in Chatuchak weekend market (which I think is the JJ market you mentioned). You will need one full day there. Opens every Sat and Sun only. Be sure you take some of the very nice ice coffee. :)

City tour might be a good choice if it's your first visit. You may want to opt for the half day city tour when the guide ask you. It should only cost you 100 - 300 baht more. With the tour, you should be able to visit the River Market. Which is quite fascinating to see for 1st time visitor. Other than that, there's really nothing else you should spend your money on.

Suan Lum Night Bazaar:
It's a modern and cleaner version of the JJ market. Opens everyday unlike the other one, it has a gigantic beer garden with lots of local food and varieties of beer to choose from at very affordable price. It is near the Lum Pini Park. Closing down next yr Feb to make way for the new railway station, so it's a must go.

White Dragon Temple:
This is a little tricky, cos the last time I went was after my ex nagged to me wanting to go and she paid for all the extras. But if I am not wrong, it should be abt 600 baht extra each person.
But the travelling is tedious. You gotta wake up super early in the morning and it's about 2 or 4 hours of drive away from central bkk.
The temple houses this abbot that's suppose to be super good with telling your futures. Very famous among the Asians.

Erawan Temple:
Houses the 4-faced buddha. Lately reinstalled after the older statue was smashed by a lunatic and the latter was bashed to death by angry public.
The deity offered in the temple is very respected by the locals and some Asians. A popular landmark for bkk.
Go at night where you could shop by the streets and get some "LV" bags for yourself at unbelievable prices. :)

Patpong:
Another night market that operates into the wee hours. This is the place with lots of a-go-go bars, strippers joints, and Tiger Shows (when you get to see ladies trained from young doing wonders with their fannies. Like opening bottle caps and squeezinf a live pigeon outta it).

Pathunam:
Another shopper's Paradise. Mainly clothings wholesale. Bkk's tallest hotel of 80 storeys is located here.

Siam Square:
An area for the young thais. A lot more shops that featured the local designing talents. Go on a Friday and visit (if I am not wrong) Soi 5 (Street 5). This is the area where students get together on a Friday to showcase their talents of handicraft and singing.

Jaowarat:
Chinatown. Fantastically cheap bird's nest and sharks fin soup there. More shopping at the back lanes, if you dare to venture.
Many temples around the area with hundreds of years old.

Safety!!
1) Never take any cabs or tuk-tuk parked stationery anywhere awaiting passengers.
2) Always ask for price before transport and purchase. Ensure cab is on meter.
3) Never venture to where there are very few people.
4) Keep a lookout for your personal belongings at shopping areas.

HAVE FUN!! :D

Well, this will depend on what interests you have in mind when in Bangkok. Sightseeing? Shopping? Or just plain relaxing? How long do you intend to stay? A bit difficult to recommend as there is not enough info from you. Try www.tourismthailand for a selection of things you can do as a tourist there.

Enjoy your holidays.

I suggest if you don't have any city tour, get one. Very convenient and they have an english-speaking tour guide.

For shopping, there's a place called Chatuchak - a weekend shopping place where there are great bargains. Also visit their shopping malls for a variety of clothes, shoes, etc. to buy.

Try alos to go to their Safari world. Ask your hotel's receptionist about a tour package.
