Infatuation is an attraction that would go away as soon as your mind moved on to something else or another shiny object... love means that you are no longer attracted to other shiny objects.

There are all kinds of love. Infatuation is one of them. It's more commonly known as "puppy love". People tend to discriminate against it and belittle it because it doesn't fall into the category of what they consider to be "true love" or "perfect love", but it is love nonetheless. The thing about the love known as infatuation is that it tends to be an obsessive and very passionate kind of love, so the one possessing it views the person they are infatuated with through very narrow blinders and the fire of the love burns bright and fast, and in turn dies just as quickly and thoroughly.

Love isn't just the romantic, long lasting, nothing ever is wrong kind. Here is what I wrote to lvbs793's question about the definition of love:

"Love" isn't a single emotion, it's a meshing of two or more emotions of varying degrees, put together in different combinations by each individual, which change from moment to moment throughout their lifetimes. This definition covers all types of love, not just "perfect" or "true" love.

Each person decides throughout their lifetime at any moment what love is to them whether it is on a conscious level or not; what combination of emotions they should be feeling, how strongly they need to be feeling each of them and how important each of them is. This is why people fall in love with strangers or those they barely know, because those types of people are basically blank slates whom we can convince ourselves meet our criteria. It's also why that we become brokenhearted later (which is almost inevitable) when we get to know them through a closer relationship and discover that they didn't meet our criteria after all, if that ends up being the case.

As a person ages and experiences different things, then their views also change, sometimes slightly and sometimes drastically. So what they attribute as love changes, too. This is why people fall out of love with others, or why their love will develop or grow stronger.

Since we each decide which combination of emotions at any time come together to be love, then it is us that chooses love and not the other why around. You aren't made to fall in love with a certain person, you've chosen to, whether it's a conscious choice or not. We are also each responsible for any "destructive" love we may feel if we include emotions such as jealousy and anger into the combination.

There's a big difference between infatuation and real love and at first infatuation sometimes gets confused with real love.

If it's infatuation it...

fades fast
doesn't last if things get bad
doesn't last if looks fade
doesn't last if money problems arise
doesn't last if someone more attractive comes along

It's real love if...

it makes you happy
it makes you want to be a better person
your partner only wants the best for you
fading looks don't matter
possible money problems don't matter
lasts forever....no matter what.

Depends on your age sometimes. Being infatuated is not real love. Love is so deep, you think of the person 24/7 and want to be with them all the time, you can't picture you life without them. This love takes time to grow. By then, if it's infatuation (correct spelling) it is usually wearing off.

Id say infactuation is a state of mind, where as Love is a feeling/ Emotion.
No one but yourself can really say whether your in love or infactuated... If u belive your in love, then let it be. Screw what others say. On the other hand if your questuioning your own feelings for this person then amybe your not in love but infact "comfortable" with this person... and its routine to you now, and life would prob feel strange without them... therefore you consider that love... Been there done that... you wont really know til you guys break up...if thats the case. Good luck

Love is when you realize that the person has worked their way into your life and you can't function without them. It comes naturally and involves little work to achieving it. An infatuation is when you are obsessed with the person and are totally consumed with them and with pleasing them.

love is a verb, infatuation is a noun.
love is when you do nice things for somebody and care for their well being. infatuation is when you have lots and lots of thoughts about that person running through your head, maybe a little OCD.

Two years of meaningful relationship later, love is still hanging around.

Meaningful relationship includes friendship, and does not necessarily include romance.

INFATUATION IS KNOWING YOU REALLY WANT TO BE WITH SOMEONE --- SPEND SOME TIME AWAY FROM THIS PERSON -- IF AT THE END OF THIS TIME YOU FIND YOU CANT STAND TO BE WITHOUT EACHOTHER ,THEN YOU CAN CALL IT LOVE. ITS NOT WHAT YOU CAN LIVE WITH --- ITS WHAT YOU CANT LIVE WITHOUT THAT MATTERS.
