the jewish people rejected their messiah 2000 years ago, and not too many have changed their minds since. at that time they were looking for a messiah that would break the bonds the roman gov't had over them, but since he came as a suffereing messiah and not a conquering messiah, their expectations were dashed and they continue to wait. rest assured they are still God's chosen people. As christians concerning our Jewish friends, we would be wise to remember the following three things:
1. Pray - Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; those who love you shall be blessed.
2. Encourage them - Isaiah 41:6 They each one helped his neighbor, and said to his brother, Be strong.
3. Speak out - Isaiah 62:6 I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem, who will not always be silent all the day nor all the night; you who remember Jehovah, do not be silent.
Isa 62:7 And give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

answer: the Christian concept of a messiah is NOT what was taught. The story built around Jesus actually would prove he was NOT the Jewish Messiah Reasons Jesus was NOT the Jewish Messiah: Divine birth/divinity (the Jewish Messiah will NOT be divine. He will be human.) G-d cannot become human: Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 44:6, Hosea 11:9, Ezekiel 28:2, Numbers 23:19 Performing Miracles – the Jewish Messiah will NOT perform miracles but will accomplish them Taking on the sins of others: no one can take on the sins of others: Deuteronomy 24:16, Exodus 32:30-35, Ezekiel 18:1-4, 20-24; 26-27 Breaking the Sabbath – the Jewish Messiah will be observant. Sacrificed/Rising from the dead: G-d rejects human sacrifice and blood sacrifice is NOT an absolute requirement for the absolution of sin – Deuteronomy 12:30-31, Jeremiah 19:4-6, Psalm 106:37-38, Ezekiel 16:20, Leviticus 5:11-13, Jonah 3:10, Leviticus 17, Leviticus 5:11-13, Numbers 16:47, Numbers 31:50, Isaiah 6:6-7, Jeremiah 7:22-23, Psalm 51:16-17 Prophecies Unfilled – the Jewish Messiah will accomplish ALL the prophecies in one lifetime. The Jewish Messiah cannot trace his lineage through Jehoiakim, Jeconiah, or Shealtiel, because this royal line was cursed (I Chronicles 3:15-17, Jeremiah 22:18, 30). But according to Matthew 1:11-12 and Luke 3:27, Jesus was a descendant of Shealtiel Communion – the ‘last supper’ – No Jew would ever call upon followers and fellow Jews to even symbolically consume blood and flesh. Jesus is worshiped – the eternal covenant between G-d and Jews is that Jews will worship G-d and only G-d and G-d does not become a man. Numbers 23:19, Hosea 11:9, 1 Samuel 15:29, Job 9:32-33, Ezekiel 28:9, Hosea 4:15, Malachi 3:6 thanks to What Jews Believe website, Mama P and tweaking of my own (Aravah) # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # The actual prophecies about the Jewish Messiah * The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26) * Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. Jews do *NOT* believe that Jesus was the son of god, any more than EVERY human being is.
the fact is that the old testament does *NOT* describe jesus ANYWHERE nearly as specifically as people think. just as 2 dots and a horizontal line below them "looks" like a face to most people... it doesn't inherently such, if you assume it to be a fact, you warp what it REALLY says to make it confirm your beliefs.
if you look at it from a neutral view... it doesn't say that nearly as much.
for starters, the jewish messiah was NEVER supposed to be god incarnate, or more divine than anyone else.
the jewish messiah is just a guy.
a special, blessed guy, with a very special destiny, but no more divine than the rest of humanity.
Some Jews do consider him a rabbi, but thats a relatively vauge term... and some consider him to have been a powerful mystic.
I'mjewish and I'll even admit that he did fulfil some.
in Judaism many believe that each generation has a "potential" messiah born, Jesus, and a few others, have fulfilled SOME of these things, and are frequently thought of as having possibly been the potential, that started to be the one... but for some reason it didn't go through.
>>"Maybe you should point out to your friend that Jesus fulfilled the more than 360 biblical prophesies about the Jewish messiah. This is easy to look up - just search on the web and find a reliable biblical site. "<<
especially as christians see him.... he didn't fulfill every one. which means he wasn't it.
>>"I was under the impression that Jewish people just though Jesus was a great prophet. "<<
judaism doesn't even see him as a weak prophet... not a prophet at all.
what I find amusing is how that people claim that jesus was divine or god or part of god or such things. ... then claim that judaism rejected their messiah.
but the jewish messiah was never portrayed as God, or god incarnate, or as more divine than you or I.

Maybe you should respect your friend's religion and she will respect yours. Most Jews do not acknowlege Jesus as anything more than a prophet. If she believes he is the son of God then I would say that is leaning far more in the direction of Christianity than Judaism. Plus, the Holy Trinity is complicated and different people see it differently.
The Jews are God's chosen people. My advice would be to slow the target practice on your Jewish friend and just enjoy her company. That will be much more rewarding for the both of you.

Jewish people do not believe Jesus is the son of God, unless you mean that we are all sons of God. Jesus, in Judaism, is considered a good person, maybe even a prophet of God, but certainly not the Messiah and definately not God. This is simply b/c Jesus did not fulfil any of the prophecies that the Messiah is suppose to fulfil, for example, peace on earth.

They do not believe that . they believe he was a great teacher and Rabbi. Nor the promised messiah.
That's the spin the Christians have put on it.They are supposed to keep the words and deeds of Jesus true and pure until the Jews reconsise Jesus as their true Messiah and Savior.

I would challenge you to find one of the scriptures, mentioning He is God. There are some pretty descriptive ones stating that he is: the "Prince of Peace, (there is also a King of Peace), He is the mediator between man and God, He is a priest forever and has no genealogy.... Need I go on? Apparently that verse you mention includes both of them as The Christ is to sit at the right hand of God. On His own throne! Perhaps you need to read a bit more and get it right!

Most Jews don't even acknowledge him as a prophet, and for good reason -- he didn't fulfill the prophecies required of the Messiah.
http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/web/mainpages/FAQ.html shows a huge number of the reasons why. Look up under the Proof Texts to see what Jesus failed.
Jesus was of the Adversary, not G-d.

They don't believe that Jesus was the Son of God. The ancient histories say that Jesus was a sorcerer who performed miracles by the power of the Devil.
