Hi, guys. I recently started to having a relationship with this wonderful girl, who has been a friend of mine for a year. And she happened to be a white girl.(And I'm Korean) I don't know how it happened, but it just turned out that way. I really like her from inside out. But sometimes I get this staring from people when I walk on the streets holding her hands. What's wrong with them? Why are they staring? It's very uncomfortable, and I tend to go somewhere away from a crowded place. Serously, I can't stand this anymore, and I don't know what to do. Do you guys stare interracial couple when you spot them on the streets too?

I can answer your question. First of all it is NOT common to see an asian man with a white woman. It's usually common to see an asian woman with a white man.

Second of all, I used to live in Texas, Florida, and California and I didn't see a lot of asian male/white female couples. When I did, it was very rare and it drew attention because it was so rare. I never stared where it was obvious though. The people that make it obvious are rude.

If it is only men staring at you, then I would have to say it was racist. Asian men usually get a bad rap when it comes to physical characteristics and stereotyping. When men see this, they usually want to know what a white girl is doing with an asian man. If it is a white man then they are angry that you have a white gf and they do not. If it is an asian man then they are angry that you have a white gf and they do not have one. Perhaps it is jealously. It's either jealousy or racism. If the person is not jealous or racist, then it's because you are very rare. Another reason why they might stare is because maybe she is very pretty, and you are just average looking or vice versa? I remember staring one time at this couple but they did not see me. The asian man was very fat and had glasses and he was ugly and the woman he was with was pretty and feminine. So I stared at them because I was wondering what she saw in him. But that may not be your case. It's just very rare to see an asian man with a white girl.

Don't worry about it though. I am an asian female and I hang out with my white female friend and I get stared at too in Texas.
If it is so stressful to care about what people think , then I think you should not hold hands in public or show any affection to each other in public because that will draw attention.

I know that staring is uncomfortable and rude and it's very hard to ignore. I get angry too when assholes stare at me so rudely, but you have to think of it as their problem not yours.

I could simply attempt to get a glimpse of what they are watching at and if I do not see some thing, I'd say 'ahem' *clears throat to get awareness* 'what on the earth are you watching at?' Is it a hen? Is it a aircraft? Is it great sheepee? Yikes!! Its giant hen from sesame road!!! Guess he found out how one can fly.....ultimately.

where do you live??? i know plenty of interracial couples who don't get stared at like that. anyway, maybe they just think you both look hot, who knows? but the thing is, stick to your beliefs and values, no matter what other people think or do. don't blow a good thing because you care more about public opinion. if the pressure is that bad, you really are going to have a lot of problems. (I was even IN Korea and dating a Korean and didn't have a problem with staring--where do you LIVE??)

I don't see anything wrong with interracial couples for one, my mom and dad are an interracial couple and two, me being their child (Native American/Mexican). But depending on what state you live in and what city/town you're from, you will get some stares. Your best bet is to ignore them, if you really like this girl, don't let them get to you. Remember, they are the ignorant, closed minded ones that don't know any better.

Good luck and take care.

If you really dig this girl, don't let the staring get to you. People stare because it's not something they're used to, or perhaps because you guys are just really cute together, who knows.

They're strangers anyway, buddy. Who gives a darn.
I stare at couples in general because I'm jealous.
Broken hearts are a biotch.

No I don't. Only an ignorant person who knows no better would stare. Mixed couples are so common now. Ignore them and be happy.

You know why they're staring? Cause they're jealous of what you have. Forget about them! They're nobody! Just have fun, don't make this an issue. It's nothing! By the way, my parents are of different races and I love them because of that! They're cool!

There will always be prejudiced and ignorant people populating the earth. It's a great life if you don't weaken.

Some people are racists, some are just nosy. Don't let it bother you and ignore it.......If your girlfriend is happy with you, as you are with her, don't concern yourself so much with what others think. Good luck!
