Dead black men are not big news in a predominantly white Christianized government and society, that's why. Black people are getting shot in the streets here everyday, so why not over there I imagine might be another part of their thinking.

Some of the answers are ridiculous. There is no difference in who recruiters call. Being we are a military organization representing the nation, at time we are not truly representative. If it is determined we need more blacks, then we try to resolve that. Many times it is white females that score above a 50 on the asvab. Just remember, the military is supposed to be a snap shot of our society.

The military wants young fit people. They prefer disadvantaged people because all the rich people do not want their kids to go to war; like George Bush got out of Vietnam.
I read there is only one Senator who had a son in the military in Iraq.
The disadvantaged people of the USA need to rise up and fight the establishment to make it more equal for folks economically.
The way things are going the military is the only chance some of the kids have to get an education and advancement. Soon no one but the rich will be able to afford college.

I am a Black, and the military never called me. I am 23. I have a better job, than carrying a rifle. I make the rifles some BRAVE men/women use to protect this nation.

Over all the black men do very well in the military. Plus many black people don't have much chance to make it in the black neighborhoods so the military gives them a chance to make it in life.

The same reason they are calling young white, yellow, red men and women. To find out if they want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the military.

I guess because they are easy to recruit. if you get your average teenage guy, straight out of high school, but with no immediate future career or education plans, the promise or a stable career with a fairly good income is very appealing to them.

They aren't. The military calls everyone and anyone that is willing to listen. You can't single people out by race, color, or age (well to a certain extent age). Maybe you should join so you can see what I mean.

firstly, they call everyone they can get the phone numbers of. second, african-americans are statistically more likely to be poorer and less employed, thus making it more likely they'll be recruited.
