I read on VWVortex that it could be a speed sensor, but i don't know where they are located, or which part it is. Pictures or good descriptions would be great!

The speed sensor is plugged into the outside wall of your gearbox.
It counts teeth on a cog inside the box. The faster you drive, the faster the teeth pass by. It then passes this signal to the speedo which shows you your speed.

They're not expensive to replace, but can be a bit fiddly to get at.
Getting the car up on a lift would help.

The vehicle speed sensor is a likely possibility. Also, bad wires or poor connection can cause it. You can purchase basic service book at a local parts store.

could be a speed sensor or even the speedometer cable could of snapped.

find a speedometer shop in your town and have them do a free diagnosis of the problem.

My bro's spedometer died in his VW Jetta. At the shop, they said it was a $500 part + labor. I have also heard other VW owners say the same thing, so beware, but if they do say it's a pricey fix, they are prolly right

It's on the trans. Part is cheap about $40 or so. Try allgermanparts.com. They have some pictures and if you need help the guy is great.
