i missed a whole week of speech class in college. they did a group presentation and i missed it and the only way the teacher will let me make up the grade is if i have a good excuse so i emailed her and told her it was a family situation that caused my absence. someone tell me a good family situation excuse to use.

You don't need to elaborate on a family situation. Most family situations are confidential and you would not be at liberty to discuss it. And Don't Do This Again! College is important and you don't need to make a habit of lying to your professors. How do you know your professor doesn't spend time on Yahoo Answers? The jig could be up already!

Well, since the teacher set it up that all she needs is an excuse, "family situation" is as good as anything else. And all you need to say is that it's personal and you'd rather not discuss it.

By the way gramma/grampa/mum/dad/ sister/brother/dog/cat/ aunt/uncle dying only works once. Profs and teachers keep track of these things you know.

your going to need some proof so think of your contacts?! Do you have a family friend that is a doctor a cop or a lawyer someone who would vouch for your story? They may not even ask for proof but its always nice to say I can provide....
I would go with accident.

Tell your teacher that you to visit some one in the hospital that might not make it... Or some one in you family got married and you had to go.. (i gave it a try)

Some one in your family is going through PERSONAL legal matters and everyone is needed to attend and since it is personal that is all the detail you feel comfortable telling her???
