I very rarely quote Scripture on this site. Then again, I'm Catholic, not a Fundamentalist. I understand the logical absurdity of attempting to quote Scripture to an atheist, for instance, but I see people doing it all the time. If you're arguing with somebody who doesn't believe in your "proof text", then you've got to find another method of advancing your viewpoint.

Holy Cow!! No pun intended. Where in the world did you get that idea? Ha, ha. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a very long time.
"Religious people" as you call them, are simply intelligent people who also happen to believe in God and read the bible. I say intelligent, because if they can remember quotes from the bible they are using amazing memory skills. When someone does quote the bible, it's not because they are brainwashed, it's because they believe passionately in what they are saying and they can equate their answer with words from the bible.
I can't believe that you said that. I really can't. I'm still laughing

well you ask for a answer to a question, the answer is in the Bible ,yet you don't want us to quote any thing from it, so what is it you want ,us to make up something,Why can't we quote from the Bible the way it was written,(or is it ,you just can't understand it,it's way over your head) why write something when the best explanation to you peoples question is answered, and very well i might add,in the Bible,if you'd take the time to read it,with a open mind. And if we didn't answer in our own words then you people would say we were making up stuff to justify our beliefs, so make up your minds do you want to know the truth or do you want us to tell you a story.

Any answer that comes from Gods Holy Word is the right answer . Nothing superceeds Gods intellegence , not even your educated self .. We refer to the Bible quotes because we are not smart enough to have memorized them all , as I am sure you can answer any and all questions about anything without referencing a book or anything ??If you want to know the definition of a word don`t you go to the Dictionary , which is the authority on defining words and their meaning ?? Or do you go to your algebra book for all the definitions of words that you need ?? So the answer to your question is yes , we do think for ourselves as Christians !! Please note in my answer to your question that I did not quote the Bible once

Because people ask them to use the bible to back up their proof cause other wise they won't believe them. Yes religious people can think for them selves. Can you. Non Christian's always have something to quote as well. wether its a book or something of that sort. It's nto the bible but non christians are always quoting something. So you can say in a way non christians are brainwashed as well.

A better question. Why does it bother you? Of course we can think for ourselves, we are just quoting from our Christian Manual. For accuracy, and because it has power. It is the Sword of the believer, In Ephesians chapter 4, it clearly tells us to use it as part of our armor. God Bless you!

I can't speak for all Christians, but for myself it is because the Word of God has much more authority than my opinion by itself...also because I am usually answering a "religious question". So just as if someone asked me about the constituionality of something, I would probably reference the Constitution.
Furthermore, this is what Jesus Himself did (as you can read about in Mark 4) when He faced the Devil in the wilderness. Everytime, He responded with "It is written..." So of course, as a Christian my role model is Jesus...And just as He did not seek to bring honor to Himself but to the Father, I seek to bring honor to my Savior ("the word made flesh")...not myself. If I wanted everyone to praise me, for instance, I would use alot more of my own words and less of God's!!
Hope that answers your question.

It depends on the situation. I may quote famous politicians if talking about politics, famous comedians if telling jokes, or famous historians when talking about history. On morality and faith, I quote famous philosophers like Voltaire or Diderot, but why quote them as much when the greates philosopher is Jesus?

I agree..... but scripture is taught to be the word of god... so you have to look at the person ... that is what they were taught ... give them respect.... BUt to be funny in your own head... You almost want to turn it around and go hey how do you make whatever.. they don't know... .. according to Betty crocker page 99 verse 5 .. you shall stir before mixing... car motor .. page 56 verse 5 your idle must be ajusted for 30 minuintes if battery is re installed.... bet that would get old.... ( this is not meant to be mean... or hurtful .. just funny)

The word of God is living and active, and it never returns void. It also will stand forever, while this earth is passing away.
There...three bible verses in one sentence. Hm!
