Should I lead her in front, or should I keep behind her? Also my 2nd question is, where should I when we're going down a stairs. Thanks for answering.

If I should be on her side... then let's say, there's not enough space to go side by side?

If there is room walk side by side, when going down the stairs allow her to lead if she takes initiative, allow ladies to lead and to make an entrance, unless the stairs are wet, icy , in this case you lead that way you can catch her if she falls. When transending the stairs allow her to lead following the same cicumstances above. Just remember to keep up with her pace and not to drag her up the stairs! Good Luck on the date. Treat her like a Princess and you can never go wrong!

For the other person who commented, "He is simply asking for advice on how to be a true gentleman! Ladies would agree that gentleman are far and few between!

Ok, if you have gas, you might want to be behind her so her face is not right at butt level when you are on the stair above her. If she is wearing a short skirt then you'll want to be behind her too so you can look up it, but you'll want her to get a bit ahead so you can get a good peek.

No seriously, assuming that you entered a building that has stairs, then she will already be ahead of you because you sound like such a gentleman that you probably held the door open for her, so she entered the building first and will be first to get to the stairs. In any case, I think you should let her go first. Same with going down the stairs.

Ettiquette says that when going up the stairs, gentlemen stands behind the ladies; when down the stairs, the gentlemen stands in front. Simple reason being the guy should always be there to break the fall, IF the lady falls. Good luck not stumbling and catching your lady in time. Ciao!

I think the truly gentlemanly thing to do is such:

Walk up behind her in case she slips and falls, that way you can catch her.

Going down the stairs you lead for the same reason...

Walking on sidewalks, I think you walk on the outside so that if a chamber pot were emptied it would strike you and not her.

These are all very archaic principals of chivalry... which is certainly not dead, but has changed dramaticaly since the age of Knights.

a gentleman should always be behund a woman unless he is getting her chair or opening a door for her. if it happens that you are walking up or down stairs, if your in front, hold her hand so you both know she is always secure.

You poor thing. If you have to ask then your taking the spontaneous out of it. Go with it. Why does everything have to be a question?

Forget that part of the relationship. If you have to ask this on answers you are not ready for that kind of relationship.
