My sister wears a lot of nail polish and once she wore some cheap nail polish that stained her nails. She removed it with nail polish remover and never wore it again. Because the nail is already stained it doesn't just disappear. You have to let it grow out. My sisters nails started to grow normal colors after the yellow taint. Took time!

Nails take time to grow. If you don't see a healthy color at the roots of your nail ( i think more then a week or so) appearing then it could be something else.

I think its the nail but just in case found these points from the websites below.....

Yellowish or discolored nails may indicate a Vitamin B-12 deficiency, or may indicate diabetes, allergies, liver problems, or poor health.

Yellow nails occur when the nail separates from the nail bed (onycholysis) because of an injury, a skin condition, or an infection. It is also caused by medical problems such as chronic lung disease or cancer. Nails can also become yellow from smoking cigarettes or from using some nail polishes, especially red polish.

I'm pretty sure it is due to you wearing nail polish. That is why its not on your whole nail, the rest has grown out and is not stained yet.
