Apparently it is to do with the folate content - only certain cereals and breads in the US are permitted to contain folate......odd, I know!

You are right. I would rather a McDonald's ban, that would be good for me ha ha. No, but seriously if Vegemite is taking a hike I will be going to the supermarket and doing a huge stock up. I love it, when I make toast with melted butter and Vegemite, I crave it often too. It has a distinct taste, it tastes like nothing else. And, probably the only thing I get vitamin B out of...

Not long at all. It just happened. See the first link below. The 2nd link goes to a supplier in the US that still advertises that they sell Vegemite. I don't know whether they can still sell it. The 3rd link below tells describes folate as a B-complex vitamin being studied as a possible cancer preventer, and as involved in the production of red blood cells, & other physiological functions. Doesn't look like anything that should be banned.

A while. It was banned because it contained folate which in America only breads and certain cerials are aloud to have that vitamin in them. They have even gone as far as too search australians for vegemite when they come to America
