It depends on if your child is ready or not. Can he hold it while he naps? Does he know when he's about to potty, or does he even tell you when he's done? we need more info!

Wait until he's at least 2 1/2 years old. Then if he starts showing interest go for it. Boys develop a little slower than girls. Here are some great teaching techniques.
Put a small potty chair in the bathroom so he can see it in the same location.
Allow him to go to the bathroom with you and watch you and/or your spouse. When you have a b.m. or pee then say yeah!!!!!!!
You can turn it into a happy experience. If he has success... each time you could reward him with a few "M&M's" (They minis are great. Kids think their getting more than what they are because they are small.)
You can put a couple "Cheerios" in the toilet. It can be a fun thing for them to try to hit the target.
Check out Pampers and Huggies websites. They give ideas about potty training.

Hi,
It may be too early, but it can be done. Just remember that he is VERY young to start potty training and go VERY easy on him if he has a few accidents (more like a lot of accidents). Anyhow, Dr. Phil's website has a potty training tip on it. Although it specifically states that it is for kids 2+. I have spoke to numerous friends that swear by Dr. Phil's method. I listed the link below. Good luck.

At 19 months a child isn't ready to be trained. Two is the earliest you should start, but you will be a lot more sucessful if you wait until two and a half. Their bladders aren't ready and they don't know when they are going to go. They have to know BEFORE they go. When that happens they should be ready to try. Good Luck. I think a lot of people have troubles because they try too early. I would bring out a potty and maybe put him on it sometimes to get him used to it, and maybe get a feel for it.

19 months is a really good time to begin getting your child ready to train. When mine were about that age I started telling them everytime I changed a diaper, went to the potty myself..or when daddy went potty..I told them that when the weather got warm we were gonna wear big girl/boy pants and go to the potty and not use a diaper anymore..I thought warm weather training would be easier as to not have too many layers to contend with...by the time the weather warmed they had heard it for so long and knew what was going on..we had a super easy time of it. It worked for both of mine..maybe for you as well... Good luck

Sometimes you gotta do it when you gotta do it. For instance if your getting a job or going back to school then you may want to set down the logistics of pottying now. That said, always make it fun. Don't sweat the accidents. I put fruit loops in the toilet and told him to aim. That was loads of fun!!!

what worked for me was to have him and my husband race to the bathroom to see who could pee first. Sounds crazy but it worked. He is almost 6 now and they still do it. I have also heard of puting fruit loops in the toilet and telling him to try in hit them....good luck....boys are harder than girls.

You don't. It's much to early! You'll just frustrate yourself and confuse him. Please wait for him to be ready!
