Bought a tv/vcr combo at a garage sale with no remote control. The closed caption stays on all the time , how can I get rid of the closed caption on the tv. Also will a universal remote control work on any tv?

Get a universal remote. If there is a menu button on the TV, that's where I'd start by finding a way to turn off the CC without the remote....you can get a universal remote for just a few bucks at any dollar store that will work fine!

Try getting into the menu on the set via the control panel.... otherwise a universal remote SHOULD work, I would suggest bringing the TV brand and model with you when you shop for one. If the set is too old, you may not be able to find a universal remote very easily, but with a little work and a field trip to Best Buy, I think you can manage something. Good luck and hope this helps

Look to see if there is a menu button on the TV, then you can manually turn off the closed caption feature. If not, then I don't know about that. You can pick up a universal remote at any Wal*Mart, Dollar General, any department store for cheap, and YES, they usually do work fine. Good luck with your TV!

Hope you got a sweet price on the tv/vcr. Any universal remote should work. Make sure you know the make (brand) your unit and look on the package of a universal remote at your local walmart or whatever. It should tell you whether it will work on your unit or not. Make sure the universal remote has functions for a vcr.

A uni remote should work, sometimes you need the make/model but not always. I had a TV that would work just pointing the remote at the TV and pressing a button, without needing a code.
