Agnostics and Athiests can answer by quoting some of the charatcers - real life or from books that they have read on their beliefs.
Please don't quote religious texts, just name the character - Lets make it easier, you can name one male and one female character from your religious texts/books on your beliefs' that you think represents your particular faith or belief, and why you think they are the best representatives?
Think deeply and answer. And please no running down of any religions or faiths or of atheists or agnostics.

I tend to be agnostic most of the time, but since you wanted to know about the characters that I admired most from the religious texts that represent the religion I was born into, so I choose as follows:

Well I am born of Hindu parents-the characters that I admire most are the Ram and the Krishna avatars of Narayan.(from the epic Mahabaharata, the Ramayana is a part of the Mahabharata)

Ram, because of his high standards of life, and Krishna because of his guile, his wisdom, his Bhagwat Gita.

From the female category, it would have to be Krishna's sakhi and friend Drupadi for her getting after the Pandavas to get back her and their honor.
(A note: I do believe in a creator, but would not, like to cage him to Hindu or Christian or Muslim or some other religion, if that is being agnostic then that's what I am)

Jesus was my first thought and though I do think He fits the bill greatly, I actually have to say Moses because he was not the Messiah, just a normal person. When God first spoke to him he resisted, believing he couldn't possibly be a prophet, but ended up showing great obedience and leading a lot of slaves to their freedom.

marilyn monroe...b/c of what her life and death taught me about the real world... #1 she was raised in fosters homes and orphanages and rose to her dream #2 in living that dream, she realized that the world is full of sin and hatred along with empty promises...she said" hollywood will pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul" and #3 through her death i realized that lots of people only care about what you look like and what you can do for them...and when you die, you only meant as much as they needed you for. its sad that so many people onl y wanted to know if she was naked when she died, not if she was happy, or if she was killed...the world is a screwed up place and her story makes me grateful for the people that i have, makes me never take anything for granted. befriending those types of lost souls is something i strive to do, b/c a friend is something that everyone needs...i learned that from her story...

Since I belive in science, my heros are Madam Curie and Charles Darwin.

They both proved their observations of reality in the face of ignorance and have become legends for lifting up the human race.

(please note that these are not merely "characters in a book" they lived and breathed died etc.. on this earth...)

Jesus - He paid the price for our sins.

And Daniel - who was "highly esteemed" because even though he was taken captive as a youth, made to learn another language and live in a foreign country, he never disobeyed God, even when it could have cost him his life. He was a man of integrity who never caved in to pressure. He never took a bribe, served God without thought of personal gain. Prayed when it was declared "Illegal". I could go on and on. There is a whole book about Daniel in the bible, read it, it's fascinating and prophetic!

Ruth is another favorite. She gave up going to her home land after her husband died. She took care of her mother in law. She worked gleaning in the fields to feed herself and her mother in law. She was self sacrificing. Not something we see a lot of in this day and age. She married Boaz who was the father of David and is an ancestor of Jesus.

Dirk Gently. The man is brilliant. And Jeeves, of course, though he is a fan of Spinoza, with whom I have had some disagreements.
