My back is really hurting and I ran out of hydrocodone that the dr gave me. I do have some old hydrocodone from 2002. Has anyone had any bad experiences from taking medication thats so old?

there's basically three directions. either it will lose it's potency and just not work as well. or it will change in its composition. this could have an AMPLIFIED effect, this could lead to potential OD effects, or it could have DIFFERENT composition, leading to different effects on your body. Any of those are bad. either you are in pain, over dosing, or experiancing a unknown reaction because the composition changed. put it this way, would you give someone you loved with all your heart an expired medication, not knowing the effects it could produce? as a health care worker, I would never using anything expired on me, my parents, or my patients. like someone else said, they have expiration dates for a reason. if it gets that bad, go to urgent care or ER, if not make an appt with your primary care provider asap. watch out with codeine too. it has the potential to be habit forming.

Meds have an expiration date for a reason. Out of date meds lose their potency and will not work. Some meds can be dangerous if out of date. Do yourself a big favor and flush the old meds.

If it is in liquid form I wouldn't advise taking it since parts could have evaporated leaving it either stronger or weaker than what your doctor wanted you to take.

If it is in pill form, you might take a chance, but why not ask your pharmacien?

I wouldnt recommend it. Meds usually have a tentative experation date, but since it is from 2002, i wouldnt take it if i were you.

I don't think it would work anymore..Besides, its properties have changed and might have an ill effect on you..Just flush them down the toilet.
