he is an ***hole and doesn't spend much time with me. Why is he nice on the phone when he's away and an ***hole when he comes to visit?

I do not know how long you two have been togethe but dump him if he is not nice to you. It is easy for him to hide behind a phone and be nice and not treat you with respect when he visits? No Deal.

That's weird, most guys would be the other way, not bothered to talk by phone but all sweetness & light when your with them. you obviously both feel that trying to keep the reelationship alive while he's away is worth it so just workm on it a bit, talk to him when he's next with you, ask him why.
One guy I went out with; we conected sooo well when we were together, but after he left I wouldn't hear from him for weeks on end, but then when we met up it would be like it was before. In the end I gave up trying to keep it going, didn't text/phone him & as he didn't either I presum we've split up (3months since I last heard from him)

Well it's hard to say......guys are so unpredictable....I say forget this guy, dump his sorry ***! You don't need that, no girl needs to go through that, when there are many nice guys out there, who would respect us always....besides I don't believe in the long distance relationships....Don't worry about it, the guy is a loser...You deserve better, every girl deserve better than a jerk like the one you mentioned.....Good Luck

Weird ...
Most guys I know are the opposite, they're asshole on the phone but nice when they visit.
Why don't you ask him what his problem is?
Long distance is hard enough ... but with him being asshole?
Ask him .... then talk about it ... maybe it'll help?

He might be dreading the fact that he will be leaving again soon and that might just be his way of dealing with it.
