I bit my nails for years and years ever since I had teeth. I was 25 when a girl told me it was gross, which was more motivation than I needed to quit it. For the first couple of weeks I used the clear nail polish that tastes like crap, you can get it at any drug store. Put it on daily and whenever you taste it use it to remind yourself not to bite them. If it stops tasting, put more on. I think you really need to WANT to quit, as you do with any addiction. After a couple of weeks I stopped using the nail polish (since I had to hide it from my friends and I started feeling a little girly =D). I still put my fingers in my mouth sometimes, but I havent bit a nail in over a year.

YIKES! I was just biting mine when I saw your question! Actually, I was not biting them, I was chewing on them. LOL Just decide that you are worth better. Every time you feel like putting your nails in your mouth, remind yourself of the stinking rotten germs in them! And then, massage them instead. They need a good rub after all you put 'em thru. And when you bite them, you create uneven ridges which make you bite THOSE and ad infinitum. Soooooooooo, carry a nail file also.

I actually heard of someone wearing rubber gloves - the super thin kind jso that they were easy to still do day-to-day tasks with them on- while they were in their home and after a couple of days of not having access to the nails to bite 'em the habit was gone! Good luck!!

.a friend of mine put an elastic band on his wrist and when he'd bite his nails he'd snap the elastic and it would make him stop. then the idea of the pain coming from biting his nails made him stop. but then he lost the elastic and started biting again, so i hit him when i see him do it. also wearing gloves might help, or try to stay busy, either with knitting, typing, something that keeps your hands busy and out of your mouth.

Go to the drug store and ask them what you can put on your nails so that won't bite them. I did many years ago and I stopped immediately after using such a product

They make nasty nail polish, that tastes horrible. Just brush that on your nails and you will have an incentive to resist nibbling.

I replace biting w/ filling really short and clear polish, so there wasn't anything to bite and the polish taste would remind me, putting Tabasco on your fingers is gross! and what if you forget and rub your eye! but anyway I got use to not biting them anymore and now there really nice
