I had an online discussion with a Muslim who said that Muslims think that kissing in public by unmarried couples is vulgar, but he failed to explain why they are repelled by such a harmless act.

Because they are legalistic in their religious views. That sets them up to judge people for what they do, thinking that God is sitting up in heaven worrying about it.
Christians have the same kind of people. Both are a pain in the butt.

Muslim, -but don't really have a strong opinion about that. Because I don't care about it really, but those actions are kinda of vain, since children and other people are walking around, the public belongs to the people and people should be considerate of others around them. He may be bothered because he's from a differnt country. But that's the culture for Western Muslims. People from all walks of life are disturbed by couples who do sexual acts in the public view.

Only Muslims? Ultra Orthodox Jewish singles are never allowed alone as a couple till married, many of the Christian fundamentalists are this way,as are many religions around the world. Often it is culture more than religion, but------it is still the same on showing affection. Who says they are wrong? Just because it is not your way of doing things, does not mean it is wrong. It is not a feeling of being vulgar. It is a matter of modesty and respect of one's self.

I think many Hindus are offended by it too. And Muslims & Hindus are as diff as night & day. Muslims actually have more in common w/ Christians than w/ Hindus (in terms of faith).
But it prob has to do w/ the fact that it's a private act. Usually, initimate, private acts are for when those 2 ppl are alone.

Because a kiss can lead to sex and sex was mention in Koran without marriage is forbidden because God wanted everything be in its right place...he wants also to make sure that the woman not be use of sexual things because woman is easy to love while some men can fool the woman to have sex...and to decrease the single mothers that handle everything by her self must be a man to help her as God knows woman is so soft can't handle all by her self and women get tired faster than men....that a example why it is forbidden.

That is not completely true. They do show a lot of affection. Men and women hug and kiss each others when they greet, and sometimes they even kiss on the lips, but they it is not between boy friends and their girl friends.

That is alright, I have seen Christian communities that had bans against hand holding by singles. Repression can be anywhere.
