It's best to close the bottle with another closure, not the original cork. There are pump closures which will exclude air and thus reduce the risk of off flavours. Once wine is opened it should really not be kept more than a day at room temperature (but may keep for 2 or 3, in which case it is better to store it in a refigerator). Red wine is best opened about an hour before you serve it and should be served at room temperature (or a little lower in very hot weather). Rose should be served slightly chilled and white at a degree or two lower than that.

You can buy plastic bottle caps (some even have a screen strainer) at most stores. They also have "tasting corks" which you can get from wine supply houses which are shorter than regular corks, have a plastic top and are the best thing. I use them all the time. Get a package and use them. Sometimes you will get a bottle of wine with a plastic top and cork bottom, and you can recycle them also.

I think there is a cap, because you can buy a special vacuum made just to suck the air out of a wine bottle. Then maybe it gets replaced by a cork, I think extras come with it.
Try a vineyard store. That's where I ran across one. They're about 30 bucks, I believe.
They are probably well worth it, if you drink alot of wine, or have good quality wine.
It saves memories, of that special night...

Yes! We have a great one that works with a vaccuum pump, so you can get the extra air out. It is a very affordable way to save a bottle for the next day or two. I can't remember what store I got it at, but I found the same thing at Yahoo! Shopping:

Enjoy your wine!
Cheers!

Yes walmart has a cork replacer on their aisle with odds and ends for the kitchen- kitchen gadgets. And you can always just turn the cork you pulled out ,put it back in upside down. hope this helps.

You can buy wine bottle stoppers in many stores like Marshalls, Target, Pier 1, etc. Can probably find a nice one on EBay. They make great gifts for wine drinkers.

You can usually find stoppers in grocery stores, etc, but the problem with wine is it deteriorates rapidly when exposed to oxygen. There are a number of product available that claim to add a few days to a wine's freshness.
