Some females will stay pink, depending on their age and their color. Most turn a dark crusty color. Others will turn a light tan.

Budgie hens will stay in the nest box almost all the time. I found that if no-one was feeding her she would get up and feed herself if she got hungry enough. I also found that some males are very sneaky with the nest box feedings. They will dart in and out, often when you're not looking, and it looks like the hen isn't eating. Sometimes it helps if you keep a small bowl of food close to the nest box. That way the male doesn't have to work as hard and the female, if she needs a break, doesn't have to travel as far from her babies. Since she's had her fist egg, she'll be very antsy. She'll be wanting peace to herself and that's possibly why the male is avoiding her. In another 4-5 days she should have her clutch all laid. Expect as many as eight eggs! Budgie moms are really good parents, even helping the babies hatch out of the eggs as they 'pip' (hatch).

Male budgies don't incubate the eggs. The female is in charge of feeding and keeping them warm until they start learning to fly. Then the male starts feeding the babies as they come out of the nest box.

Hope that helps :-)

the fact about the male feed the female i dont know, though the part about the cere is normal, sometimes.alot of times they will be the brown color like you said.dunno why it didnt turn that color though.and as far as the parakeet kicking the egg off it might have been a mistake.

When my cockatiels had eggs, they took turns sitting on the eggs. The first 2 days the mom sat on them and didn't get up, while the dad sat right outside except to eat and drink. Then she got up to eat and move around, and he sat on the eggs, and they took turns. It was so interesting! The mom protected the eggs (she would bite and flap if we tried to touch them), but the dad protected the whole cage! Both were as tame as ever when we took them out of the cage during their off-duty time.
