why is that people need good credit to be approved for a loan or even get a decent job?

Your credit is your financial fingerprint. Put yourelf in the position of a lender or employer: Would you feel comfortable loaning money or hiring someone that doesn't repay loans and does not have responsibility?

I don't know what it has to do with getting a job, but as for getting a loan it shows that you are responsible (enough) with your money and make your payments on time. I guess it shows you are trustworthy in general.
