Vinyl wall paper is the best, especially in humid areas of the home, plus vinyl is easy to maintain and keep clean. Be sure when you wallpaper to pick up a tube of seam glue, as steam will sometimes raise the seams of the wallpaper and the seam glue is a quick fix. Good Luck and have fun! I love to wallpaper. Lowes has some nice vinyl wallpapers, I have used it in one of my bathrooms and it is holding up very well, also check out wallpaper stores, the heavier the the wallpaper is the better it will hold up, and be easier to apply to the wall. You will have tons of colors and patterns to choose from, so have fun.

The best kind of wallpaper is NO wallpaper! It might look good for the time being, but when you or someone else decides to take that stuff down, it's living hell ! I would suggest you use a faux technique with paint, or get one of those rollers that will print a design on the wall for you. In the long run, you will be much happier. If you must wallpaper, only do one wall. I'm telling you, if you ever had to strip that crap off of a wall, it would cure you from ever wanting wallpaper again! Godloveya.

Lots and lots of variables here---that's the fun of wallpaper.
First, wallpaper is a big investment in money and time and effort. Until you are super-enthusiastic about wallpapering, don't bother. There are lots of little wallpaper tools you need to have, too. There is also a time-delay with wallpaper if it has to be ordered. You also might be stuck in the time it takes to remove old wallpaper and clean up walls for the new stuff.
Generally, the best all-around wallpaper is pre-pasted, where the wallpaper is dipped in a "water tray" and ready to put on the wall. Unless you are an expert, I would stay away from the "heavier" all-vinyl papers. The lighter the paper is, the better it will stick.
The other variable is WHERE the wallpaper will go. This is open to many other variables----size and shape of the room (some wall surfaces and room shapes are impossible to attach wallpaper to). Little, infrequently-used rooms like bathrooms, entry foyers, hallways, can be great wallpapering projects, and wild-looking patterns that would destroy a larger room would look super in a little room.
The other variable with wallpaper is your own skill, and until you get in there and paper something, you won't be able to practice it. One example is my Kitchen. I wallpapered it 3 separate times before the job was done right, over a number of years. It had lots of weird corners and surfaces, and it took 3 times for me to learn to do it correctly, with the right pattern, and with the glue just right.

Honey, if you are buying a house, DO NOT wallpaper it. It is cool and nice at the beginning, but if you ever think about remodeling your home, it is a NIGHTMARE to take it off. UNLESS you pay someone to do it. IF you every should get to a point and want to sell your home let's say, buyers absolutley hate wallpaper. Wallpaper=work, and work is the last thing someone wants to do with the little time they have left for what's called Life. I think wallpaper is outdated, and oldfashioned. Unless you live in the South I guess. They love that stuff there.

Wallpaper varies greatly in its material content, which helps determine how a paper looks and how it handles. Vinyl wallpaper are popular because they are durable, fairly easy to install, and easy to maintain.

agree with yellowdj. plain walls, with pictures - paintings, posters or photos of your choice, which are then easy to move around when the mood takes you.
