lemons there for the taste only. at partys my friend would do shots of dark liquor where you squeezed a little lemon juice on your hand and then sprinkle salt there to absorbe it and before you take the shot you lick the salt, take the shot, and then suck on the lemon. i hate the taste of liquor so that worked out really good. couldn't taste the liqour at all!!! and you would get drunk just as fast as if you didn't suck on a lemon-there for tast only! Though if you don't want to get as drunk or drunk so fast, drinking on a full stomach works(bread and food will absorb the alcohol in your stomach), drinking on an empty stomach will make you sick = (

What they said is true, it's a little bit of both, the taste and the alcohol holding abilities. I'm not so sure about the bread thing, I think thats and urban legend, but I do know that if you want to withhold drunkenness, you can eat cabbage before going out and drinking.
Have fun, and happy drinking!

the lemon is to cut the taste of the shot, the greasy food and bread do help, also help with a lessor hangover in the morning, eat something also while you are drinking. how fast you get drunk depends on what you are drinking, how fast you drink it, your body size, how much you normally drink on a regular bases. and of course they say it takes females less alcohol then males to get drunk, although i have drank my fair share under the table.

HONESTLY-I've noticed that if I drink excessively (10+drinks) w/ lemon or lime wedges like in Corona(1 WEDGE PER BEER) I do not get a hangover the next day.I still fell drunk though.

the lemon DOES at least decrease your "drunkness" although very little. they just suck a lemon to get the sour taste as not to get dizzy.
