I know it has to do with the smell of my cat that returned from the vet. The kitty goes up to him, smells him, and then hisses at him. What can I do to make her stop... what do I need to do with the cat that came home from the vet? Help Please!

Take a towel. Wrap the hissing cat in the towel and spend a long time petting him or her. After that long love session, take the towel and wipe it over the other cat. That will transfer the smell.

On the other hand, if you just leave them alone, they can usually work it out just fine in a little while.

Get your scent on the returning kitty. The hissing kitty finds security in your scent. Pick up vet kitty, pet him in your lap for awhile, brush him with one hand and follow the brush strokes with a pet, scratch under his chin, and if that's not enough, go to one of the larger pet supply stores and buy a product called a Feliway diffuser. You can check them out and also order one on their site, if you'd rather, at www.feliway.com. They work by plugging right into an electric socket and diffusing a mist that we can't see or smell into the room that smells to the cats like the scent they rub on things in your home (or you!) from scent glands in the tops of their heads, their cheeks and their paw pads (when they scratch "at" things) which is familiar, and makes them feel secure. Feliway emulates the cats' own scent and usually makes the stressed kitty calmer. I have used it for many situations and it works. Hope this helps.

The smell will go away after a day or so, if not, then just give it a bath; that will help out! =) Hes not mad, just doesnt recognize why your one cat smells like 30 others and some dogs!

If your cat had surgery while at the vet's, you need to keep him confined for a period of time that the vet should have told you. If it didn't have surgery, just let them reunite and get to know each other again. The other cat just doesn't recognize the funny smell that is on your cat. They will get used to each other again.

You can put a drop of vanilla extract on both their noses or a drop of scented hand cream. That makes them smell the same to one another and reduces the tension.

Give them BOTH a bath at the same time. Then they will join together and feel sorry for themselvs...really, try it.. we did it with Gizmo and mooch, they hate each other though, but they slept next to each other that night and are fine now.. try it..(With a thick jacket) They WILL scratch.

A nice bath would help. Wear protective gloves if the cat has its claws.
