I think there's already some good ideas up from other people. The only one so far I have doubts about is using a spray bottle. Seems to me this is at least part fear on his side, and you don't want to do anything that will further damage the relationship between you and make him more afraid. Here's how I see this MAY have developed. I think the first poster may be right that he's a hyper active, playful type of cat. Many cats run up and wrap themselves round legs in play. If so, in this case it's gone wrong though. To be honest, I think your reactions might have caused things to escalate. I know it's hard, but when my girls were kittens I got claws latched into me quite a few times when they tried to climb me or something. I learnt that the best reaction was to stay quiet and calm and unhook them. If I screamed or tried to pull them off, they became frightened and dug in deeper. I feel part of your problem may be that you've got into a cycle of more and more reaction on your part, leading to more and more fear and deeper injuries from him. Maybe the high pitched noises are close to your screaming and put him on high alert, maybe he starts thinking he better defend himself before you start hitting... I know at this stage it's a tall order and may not be possible: but if this happens again, try not to scream, hit him, or pull him off. Did you know that the best way to separate two pitbulls is to lift their front ends up and wait for them to let go? Pulling them apart causes flesh to tear... In the same way you may be able to reduce injuries by staying calm and not fighting him. I can't guarentee it will work: I was recently the victim of a cat attack where I stayed calm and backed off and the cat still came at me three times. Would it have been worse if I'd screamed or hit? Difficult to know really, but I believe so. I got a load of scratches but only one deep bite. Pretty Kitty has given a great answer and a great link. I'd concentrate on doing things to calm him, and, since he's showing jealousy, make him feel loved, including by playing with him. Whatever you play with him with, make it act like a prey animal (no running towards him, which may make him defensive: move it away, across his view, or make it freeze and twitch), and let him 'catch' and 'kill' it in the end. I do think this is serious. I think you should also take him to the vet to rule out any health issues. And if you can afford it I think you should get the help of a behaviourist: your vet should be able to refer you to one.

It sounds like he is too difficult to handle and at best should be in a single cat household.

I am glad I do not have to make the decision. Could the vet possibly recommend some calming drug for him?

I suggest you take the cat to a vet or the humane society and have him put to sleep. It is the best decision you can make for all concerned.

Have you asked the vet? Some cats need hormone therapy or tranquilizers. I hope you had him neutered. That usually calms male cats down.
