If your dog is just underweight and has no health issues, such as worms, than depending on his age you may want to try feeding him puppy food. Puppies grow fast in their first year and their food is packed full of a higher and healthy caloric diet to maintain their bodies as they grow. For an adult dog (1-7) this will put healthy weight on him. Canned dog food will not help put weight on and should only be given to a dog occasionally.

If your dog is in his puppy or senior years than check with your vet for added diet items. Keep in mind a dog diet means their food intake, not taking food away like humans would diet.

First of all, treat your dog for worms (and get a good wormer from your veterinarian). Use good dog foods such as Purina. The canned foods have lots of fat that will help also.
