I believe it went the same way for a swastika, the Nazi's used it, so everyone equated it with bad things, so the Satanist used the inverted Pentagram, so everyone thinks it's evil, I myself don't agree, I hold the Pentagram in high regard.

Isn't it the case that many things which are not wrong in and of themselves are appropriated by people who add sinister meanings or usage.
example: the Rainbow, used by God as a sign of His pledge that He will not destroy the world again by flood .... now others use the rainbow as a symbol for their own desires.
And the swastika:
http://history1900s.about.com/cs/swastika/a/swastikahistory.htm
The Nazis used it to murder millions of people, but for centuries it had positive meanings.
Until the Nazis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.
Even in the early twentieth century, the swastika was still a symbol with positive connotations. For instance, the swastika was a common decoration that often adorned cigarette cases, postcards, coins, and buildings. During World War I, the swastika could even be found on the shoulder patches of the American 45th Division and on the Finnish air force until after World War II.
Because of the Nazis' flag, the swastika soon became a symbol of hate, antisemitism, violence, death, and murder

The sybmol was adopted by Wiccans, who many religious people consider to be pagan and evil. The pentagram with a circle around it is a symbol of faith according to the religion of Wicca. Many also believe Wiccas are witches, technically they are correct because of etymology, but those who follow that religion believe that doesn't necessarily mean one is a witch. Wicca is a survival of the European witch-cult that was persecuted during the witch trials (sometimes called the Burning Times), and the strong element of secrecy that traditionally surrounds the religion was adopted as a reaction to that persecution. In modern times, Wiccans have been incorrectly associated with black magic and Satanism, especially in connection with Satanic Ritual Abuse hysteria. The Bible (Leviticus 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them and Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live) may incite Christians to be less than sympathetic toward neo-Pagans in general. Wiccans also experience difficulties in administering and receiving prison ministry, although not in the UK of recent times.

I love pentagrams!!!
The pythagoreans thought it was the most beautiful shape becuase of its relationship to the divine proportion which they felt was a beautiful number. I dnot know who decided to use it as a symbol for evil but that ruined it.
Anyway i use it to scare people who annoy me.

This is probably wherein it comes from: Leviticus 17:7 7 They need to now not present any in their sacrifices to the goat idols [a] to whom they prostitute themselves. This is to be a lasting ordinance for them and for the generations to come back.' Footnotes: a. Leviticus 17:7 Or demons

Like so many things nowadays, it is just another innocent bystander in the war of folks not knowing what the story is behind it. Hollywood and people's own ignorance cloud judgment in alot of things, including the pentagram.
Great question, btw!!
